I was talking to a guy today who told me that he had some kind of Masters degree in engineering, or some f*****g thing anyway.

He was pretty smart as he tried to belittle me with all his equations and science.

But then in his dim-wittedness he asked me if I felt belittled by his knowledge, at which point I laughed out loud and told him that I wasn't, and that I found his social ineptitude far more interesting than his masters degree.

He slammed the phone down on me.

The brain, like the body, has many different functions, and you can be brilliant at some things and terrible at others. Why is this something that many people have trouble understanding?

With some people you have to be blunt.

"An expert on autism, are you?"

"Uh...no."

"Then why would you try to contradict people who are? You don't know the things they know, and you're not an expert in the area and they are. I'm a real person. Please don't force your fantasies on me. This is my life, and this is how things are. If I have to live with it, so do you."

this is brilliant. i'm going to try using this.

I don't know how you can do that job. All that interaction with people would be my worst nightmare. I struggle to telephone people I know let alone total strangers. I even write myself a little script before I phone my father!

Uhm never been told that. I've actually been told that I look too stupid to have Asperger's and that I am probably just a ret*d with ADD. This because I actually smile and laugh, I am distracted, I don't always look serious, and am not a straight-A student while people with Asperger's are supposed to be the opposite.

I have a script I follow, but I do have to veer away from it because people start telling me about their lives. It's funny sometimes.

The strange thing is, is that I talk all day on the phone to strangers but I hardly say two words to my colleagues.

They don't mind, they know I'm in my own world. :)

Ignorance should have no negative connotations, it simply implies not knowing.

Smart people recognize their own ignorance and keep their mouths shut. Stupid people say what's on their mind before thinking.

Measuring our own ignorance would be quite a feat, would it not? :D

I've come to the conclusion before that maybe true intelligence is or may be based on an awareness of one's own ignorance, but then, I'm really quite ignorant and this bit of random pop-nonsense panders to my ego, which likes to think I'm intelligent

Uh that sounds like us because we don't know how it will come across so therefore we said it without thinking people call it. Plus ADHD people do that too and they really don't think so that is the difference between the two.

Plus if everyone kept their mouths shut, how else will they learn?
