Who benefits most from a childhood/early diagnosis?

The pharmaceutical industry as there is an enormous amount of money in the co-morbidities of ASD
Welfare/Social Services cause it keeps the pen pushers in work
The minimuum wage employers cause schools on the whole are not interested in teaching methods outside those that suit NT's so many ASD'ers will end up on minimuum wages.

A diagnosis alone doesn't solve anything, if you don't get any helpful support or understanding along with it. The problem with my upbringing was my environment, pure and simple. I grew up in a hick community that felt at least 20 years behind the times and the people around me were poorly educated and ignorant and some were abusive. It would not have made much difference for me to have a diagnosis, in fact it might have made things worse. I can just imagine the stupid misguided ways people might have tried to "fix" me, and I'm glad I did not spend my childhood on medication.

But I wish I had known for myself, for my own understanding, so I might not have tried to push myself to do things I really wasn't up to or ready for. In particular I wish I had been more cautious about going to college.
