I sometimes find it awkward to end conversations too. I get that kind of awkward silence. Then I just kind of go, "Okay, Bye"

I do the same, or I use "My spleen just bursted"-like solution.

I have a very bad habit of just walking away from the conversation. I facepalm about it afterwards when I think back on the conversation, realising that that was probably not where the other party had intended to close the conversation.

I am trying to get into the habit of saying "well, better get back to it" (at work) or "well, better get going" in other conversations, but I have been forgetting.

It's a bit awkward sometimes because my closest workmate is blind and obviously cannot see that I have walked away, so he keeps talking. I find myself having to sneak back into the conversation to end it sometimes lol.

A little signal does it. Otherwise people will stand there baffeled, wondering, if they said something wrong

Body language is also helpful in signaling the end of a conversation. It's always good to sort of position yourself in the direction you wish to go (which is anywhere other than where you are at the moment) and slowly begin to build momentum. It become pretty damn evident after a few short steps that the conversation is now winding down. Usually a wave, a laugh, or a "see ya later" will terminate the exchange pleasantly.

Of course, desperately clingy people will try to extend this process indefinitely. They might keep trying to pull you back into a boring conversation even after you created a sizable gap. Those are times when I seriously consider just becoming a hermit once and for all.

Me too, it's so awkward, also starting conversations. I have one of the worst communications on this site, I can guarantee you that. It makes me feel really stupid and fruatrated.
