Yup. Same old "How dare those Aspie elitists acknowledge some people with classic Autism make them feel unsafe. We'll teach them to want to be separate from Autistic people who lack an understanding of boundaries by makng them fall under Autism in the DSM!" Yes because PTSD from being harassed by peope with Autism in support groups is sooo funny. Haha begging for help and only being able to get simplified help because now you're Autistic and need to be treated like a 4 year old, hilarious!

...i see.

So, this should probably stop now.

I'm new here, but I don't much like how you have been kind of spewing venom that really is clearly meant for other people in a variety of directions, VioletYoshi.

I understand that you have been hurt, are angry, have been in positions where you have felt unsafe. That is all understandable. The issue that is now arising is that you seem to be taking out this anger for other people, which have developed from these completely unrelated situations, out on individuals who have zero to do with those other situations.

You speak of feeling unsafe, etc.

I am going to tell you right NOW: I was having a good old time here, despite being one of the new kids, feeling pretty accepted even after maybe coming off a little unreasonable [after I realized maybe to stay away from the chat haha].

I was, that is, until I started coming upon all these accusations you have been writing of men on the spectrum being unsafe or possibly predatory, the suggestion that this is a similar place, etc etc. And let me be clear about this: the discomfort created by those things is not that I feel what you are saying is true, either about men [or anyone] on the spectrum as a whole, nor about WP. It's that you are inserting all this fear and negativity into a place where you claim you do not feel safe. You say you do not want to engage with or socialize with men on the spectrum, yet you continue to do so.

You use the example of a television show as evidence that you are aware of signs of an abusive relationship- I have firsthand experience, and shared that. You choose not to continue that discussion and maybe take my offer of support. Instead you come here and make really nasty comments.

This is making ME feel unsafe. YOU are making me feel unsafe.

I am going to disengage from communicating with you at this point and likely direct a moderator to this situation. But to be clear: I am really unhappy with the way you are saying you are seeking support. It seems to be causing harm, not only to me- which is why I said anything at all.
[But hey, maybe it doesn't matter much what I say]

Please consider whether some other tact on your behalf might prove more beneficial.

You can tell the moderator to cancel my account. I no longer am considering myself an Aspie because of the constant denial that there are serious problems in the Autism community regarding sexual harassment.

To Violetyoshi
You may have had problems with some people you have come across but they are nothing to do with any difference between autism and Asperger's (I have met people with AS who are violent, sexually aggressive and unpleasant and even more neurotypicals with those traits) and a thread like this is not the place to deal with them.

My son was diagnosed with AS and then was diagnosed 5 years later with autism well before DSM V came out. He hasn't changed - he met the criteria for both.

Personally I like being autistic, AS was such a restrictive diagnosis compared with autism and I love the freedom to be just who I am - I can flap and stim to my heart's content now :P

But... how can you suddenly stop considering yourself an aspie just like that? It isn't like it is a hobby. I have several diagnoses and consider my conditions to be both physical impairments as well as identities. My impairements are POTS and EDS. I can't just stop thinking of myself as someone without these conditions even if there are distressing aspects to the communities associated with them.

The problem is there are serious problems with sexual harassment in society, its not limited to the autism community and its not more of an issue in the autism community than outside of it....don't think anyone is denying it is an issue, more pointing out its not specific to the autism community and generalizing people with autism as more likely to be perpetrators of that as well as violence is an unfair and yeah its going to offend people with autism.

According to your post even Hans Asperger got it wrong in calling the condition that now bears his name, Autistic Psychopathy - Dugh! - next thing you'll be saying is that Wrongplanet is Rightplanet - Hahahaha

VioletYoshi, If people are violent or sexually aggressive, it is because they are violent and sexually aggressive. People are people whether they are on the Spectrum or not. They are people whether they are classically Autistic or have Asperger's, whether they are LFA or HFA. Violence and sexual aggression is not because of Autism or Asperger's. It is not caused by it. An Autistic person might be sexually inappropriate if he does not understand the social rules or like most offenders, has been abused in the past, but he can be taught or supervised if necessary and if the proper help is there for him. But in the same way, NT's can be just as violent and sexually perverse, not because they are NT's but because they are violent or perverse people.

If your neurology is wired such that it puts you on the Autism Spectrum, there is nothing you can do about it. You can think of yourself however you wish but your neurology is medically what it is and you can't change it. You can also be Aspie and choose not to be part of a community if you feel it is unsafe for you. You can't choose to be or not be Aspie, that is not your choice because it is not your doing, it is how your brain is made. But you can choose which communities you want to be a part of or not be a part of. That is 100% your choice but whatever you choose in that regard does not change your neurology. Autism/Asperger's is not a club that you join and leave if you don't like it. It is how your brain is wired and how it functions. There is no leaving that.

I am sorry you have been hurt and I hope that you will see here on WP that there are plenty of us who are kind and supportive and loving, just like with NT's. Hopefully you can find a place for yourself here where you feel supported and safe.

Exactly WHAT the heck are you talking about?

I take it that you were in a support group in which you were sexually harasssed. And that it was perpatrated by autistic folks. And now you hate autistic people. And further-you hate anyone who lumps you with autistic people. I once got mugged and beaten up by a gang of White males, but I dont resent being classified as "White", nor do I resent be classified as "male".

dont bother natural plastic, its a waste of time and effort trying to talk sense to the user because they dont want to change their thinking and ignores anyone who doesnt agree with them, they hold on to a strong resentment and prejudice against all autistic men plus those of us with 'classic autism',she blamed classic autists for the sexual abuse and abuse she suffered at an aspergers support group even though aspergers SGs are not supported enough, specialized enough or tailored enough to our flavour of autism to meet our needs;she doesnt want to admit she is dealing with people with aspergers;probably as she cant relate to how severe aspergers does affect some people.
its highly offensive that the user still continues to push the belief that classic autists go around sexualy abusing and attacking people plus the belief its gotten away with because of the label;if they knew anything about forensic behavior management in autists they woud know it isnt gotten away with.

It's ironic, because people on the autism spectrum often have a hard time interpreting sarcasm. I have trouble with it sometimes, but I can definitely give it out. I guess I'm not the only sarcastic aspie out there.

The OP could have tacked this on to the end of the original post:

"Autistics have trouble understanding sarcasm"

"Aspies have trouble understanding sarcasm".

Its one more similarity between the two groups, and it would have been a humorous way to clue the largely autistic readership that what was written above was itsself an example of sarcasm.

It would seem that this supposedly humorous salvo was aimed at some previous post on another thread. It is sarcastic and as such meant to be insulting to those who hold the view being denigrated in the post.

To start a new thread with an insult (mocking those who hold a different view) with no explanation of context is difficult to defend as simple humor.

If such a post triggers a defensive reaction on the part of someone else, some of the responsibility belongs on the shoulders of the original poster for being provocative (provoking).

Sarcasm often has multiple aims. If one sees it as insulting, that may be a perception of choice. It could be cleared up by asking the OP, rather than telling them what they intend though?
