Is Hating Heat / Being Hot an ASD Thing?

I loooove unnatural heat, but hate high outside temperatures. I am the opposite when it comes to cold.

I was apparently oversensitive to heat as a small child. It was some sort of sensory issue. I'm still very sensitive to heat and I really dislike/hate it. It's one of the reasons I don't really like summer. Everything gets worse when it's hot outside (I get overloaded and annoyed easier etc.). Heat is also the reason I don't like taking baths (showering's fine because they usually don't last as long as baths do). I do like heat I can control though. By that I mean for example choosing to wrap myself in a blanket when it's cold. That's what most sensory issues are like for me. I'm for example fine with sounds I can control myself but if I can't control it I tend to get overloaded.

So, I think heat might be a sensory issue for some people. However, I don't think disliking heat is something only people on the autism spectrum do. It's probably quite common.

yep, i do get annoyed when people boast and go on about how it has been a perfect summer, soaking up the sun and all that and i'm stuck inside sweating small ponds and getting sunburnt all over. and i do love winter clothes - i used to wear scarves everywhere and now i take my beanie wherever i go- even if it's super hot i'll put on a small coat, so sometimes i bring it upon myself.
on a more objective note this summer has been completely dry, like the past few, no more of the typical summer showers we usually get, so that hasn't helped out our water situation much.

i do wish it was cool and overcast most of the time too, a nice walk in a jacket and gloves under a uniform grey sky, and having hot cocoa afterwards is my idea of a good afternoon. at this point the sun fan f**k off as far as i'm-and no doubt an increasing amount of people here are concerned.

today was a bit cooler than yesterday. we've had short cool spells before but i hope this is the real deal.

I relate to this pretty much exactly. I like winter wear a lot more too, I am usually wearing a large hoodie even when it is warm. I used to wear scarves a lot and carried my beanie everywhere as well, but I dropped it somewhere and I could never find it I really hope it gets cold again soon, I function so much better in the fall and winter. The heat makes me feel tired and agitated.

No, I've met plenty of NTs who hate the heat and prefer it cooler.

I'm Aspie and I love the heat. I love winters to be nothing but rain and mild air coming from the south, and summers to be hot, hot, hot!

Love heat, cant stand cold. Anything cold. At all. The only exception is dairy products.

Even something like drinking water, it comes out of the fridge cold of course, and that just wont do, so into the microwave it goes! Gets it to a neutral temp, which is fine.

Definitely cant stand ice or snow, or basically anything associated with winter. Hate winter. So much.

My room is always the warmest place in the house, the heat is always on in the car pretty much regardless of anything, and my preferred types of areas are either tropical, or desert. Which for me generally means somewhere around Florida or Arizona.


Always been rather baffled that anyone would actually like winter in particular...

Omg! My mother calls me the human furnace! I over heat Sooo easily O.o

I usually feel really moody when it's hot. I also feel tired all the time and I have trouble sleeping. Then when it's around the sixties or fifties I'm more alert, sleep better and I'm usually in a better mood. The sun also gets too bright for me.

I don't like it too cold though because it makes me feel more depressed, but I think it has more to do with the way the environment around me looks more than the temperature because if there's no snow, it's not very scenic outside. I still don't like how the cold feels, but I like the relief I feel going back inside. It's so relaxing.

I sweat extremely easily.
Since I was small child I have noticed that I always sweat before anyone else around me, and not just a little bit. I can be in a room with 50 other people and I will be the only one with visible sweat, and it will be dripping. That is a significant difference and not just a general human thing.
I am comfortable in a range of about 4*F which moves up and down the scale depending on relative humidity and air flow.
Heat greatly slows my thinking down, and generally puts me in a bad/irritated mood.

In general, I am extremely sensitive to my environment in all real ways.

I am another who can't stand heat.

I don't really mind natural heat outside. I live in Oklahoma where it gets to be 110 or more sometimes in the summer. This summer wasn't too bad, though. I do run the AC kind of high at night, so it is 60 degrees or so in the bedroom, but I used to do ok in college and growing up when it was a lot hotter than that in the bedroom.

I can't stand the furnace any more, though. When that dry heat comes on in the winter, it about suffocates me. I get very uncomfortable with it, and almost need to get outside then. It is a battle of the thermostats in my house as my wife and daughter get cold very easy. Not sure when or why I got to the point where I couldn't stand the furnace. Need to move to Hawaii or somewhere that doesnt require heat in the winter.

I hate the heat, I don't like the room temperature over 75 degrees Fahrenheit if I am being inactive. If I am working, I like the temperature to be in somewhere around 60 or 65. I always prefer it to be colder rather than warmer.
I also prefer the night over the day, winter over summer, and overcast weather over sunny weather. I can't stand bright lights. And when things are dimmer, I do better.

I don't think it is. Give me 90 degrees any day of the week.

I prefer it cooler when I am sleeping though.

I actually am the opposite: I hate the cold and always have a sweater to wrap up in (kind of like an old lady....hmmm). The only time I am "too" hot is when it is July: muggy, hot, humid .... bleh! Other than that, I always have a jacket on me. I'm always cold and right now, both my feet and hands are frigid. I have always been this way and my NT sister is the same. Then again, my jackets are also a comfort thing too.

Winter sucks. Too cold. Ice and snow are a pain in the ass. I miss summer when it's gone. It's too fleeting.

So I'm with the few pro-heat people here.
