It depends on the person, but I love the way I find happiness in little things like stimming or special interests. Lots of NTs don't have these types of things and some have to go to drastic measures to be happy, while I can go read about Renaissance art if I'm feeling lonely or play with my slinkie when anxious and suddenly feel a little bit better.

Also we're not very judgmental, some sensory (de)sensitivities are good (EX: stimming or no pain). I think many of us are very caring too and it's especially prevalent on this site.

My friends can get pretty hypercritical of how non-judgmental I am. I can't even recall how many times I've been lambasted for helping somebody out who had fallen out of favor. I just don't like to continue cycles of retribution, there's more than enough trouble on earth as-is...

A high tolerance to pain.

^ Oh yeah, that's a very useful one. Great for cooking, BMX parks, ski crashes, working on cars and just being tough in general. Couldn't even tell you how many bumps, scrapes, gashes & dislocations I've shrugged off.

The good memory helps in some ways, but the negatives mean such won't be utilized for profit.

I bet if there were no boundaries of distance or time, Aspies from all over the World could get together and I bet, you'd find groups of Aspies forming that had the same/similar Special Interests! That'd be good.

I have a feeling, there are certain topics that Aspies form an interest in and if you could get all of the Aspies from all over the World to get together, you could sort them into the groups of their Special Interests!

I have to wonder of it's even possible to get aspie minded people to collaborate with each other. Even on "like topic" matters. Are minds work so fast internally. I don't think is possible to convey ideas between each other fast enough without some kind high-speed telepathic link.

LupaLuna, I've always loved reading your posts but I've got to admit, this one's got me stumped!

What does it mean?

I am high functioning (or so I thought) but I just don't understand what you're saying.

What does that even mean? It starts out like a question and tapers off into a statement without a question mark or exclamation mark!

Are you asking a question or are you making a statement?

What I mean by that statement, is that in my imagination. I can workout ideas so much faster then I can convey them to other people, and trying to convey ideas to other people slows things down so much, that I can lose track of what I am thinking and get frustrated trying. I sometime can't find the words to describe what I am talking about, and wonder if the words I am using have the same meaning to the other person I am talking to, as they to do for me.

Oh, often when I get over tired (3 or more days without sleep - insomnia's a bastard), if I can't think of the right word to use and I'm in casual company, I'll either make my own word up or just use the first easiest word that comes to mind.

My ex (and only) partner and daughter used to laugh at me all the time whenever I got that tired!

I like the way your mind works - I believe mine works very similar to yours!

MOMENTS OF CLARITY! I have them occasionally! Like a spiritual awakening!

I'd love to say that I find having these traits advantageous but I don't. I like being me but I can't forget how difficult the world is because of my sensory issues. I do get great pleasure from my interests and I have a great memory in some ways but the disadvantages outweigh the possible advantages. My life is a testament to that. I'm not sure how many of my problems are from being on the spectrum or from growing up believing there was something "wrong" with me. It's taking me a very long time to change those thoughts and feelings.

I don't have any hassles with friendships because I don't have any friends.

Don't feel bad, Raleigh----I think most of us don't have any friends----myself, included.
