Too long, didnt read! Or TL;DR for the super lazy...
I think that if someone doesn't have anything constructive to say, they should not say anything. Replying with "tl;dr" is rude and pointless. So I definitely agree with that.
For me writing is difficult. I did a typing speed test posted once and it was like 15 words per minute or less. So that is once reason why my posts are short. And my reading speed is slow too. For me it's more about ability than being lazy. As I have read about 100 novels
I agree that posting in forums is about interactive conversing. It's the only kind of conversing I'm capable of because I can't really talk. I guess what I don't get is, on Govteen where I have over 15,000 posts, almost no one makes long posts. Maybe that's because they are all kids and are used to keeping it short because of all the texting and live chat they do. But I find that a much more effective way for everyone to interact with each other.
Sometimes it is just sad. If I type something that has any length, you can bet that I've spent a LOT of time typing it, and retyping, and re-reading it, correcting it, removing things, adding things, and if I click the Submit button, I know there is a really good chance that I've over looked something, spelling, grammar, correcting sound-a-like and look-a-like words, or catching half completed sentences. Then to have some post it's too long to read.
Anyway, I don't see this too much on Wrong Planet. When I use to post on the Star Wars Galaxies Online forum, it popped up from time to time, "too long to read." I very, very rarely post anything of great length any more. I will spend about an hour writing something, get to a point, and then think either "this is a mess" or "this is stupid." and "click" go back to the forum headers.
Ok, this took me ten minutes to write. Correction, I added something so now it's 18 minutes. Now 22 minutes. I'm clicking submit.
(when I say added something I mean to the main content, not just typing that line.)
