I'm not even sure their behavior is a weakness. At school, if you're a nerd and bad at physical fights, people won't miss a chance to remind you that you're not better than them in any way just because you apply yourself more and get better grades, and that they can beat you up.
Being technically proficient is what nerds focus on, and the standard way others treat them is by countering it with force. If you defeat them at an online game, they have to make somehow the point that, in real life, they wouldn't let you humiliate them, because, as soon as it became clear they can't beat you playing by the rules, they'd physically assault you or do something more sophisticated to show their dominance by hurting you.
Perhaps they can't really beat you up, but they could if you were the stereotypical nerd they probably identify your online behavior with. Since you won't meet them in real life, they'll never know, but, with many potential nerdy opponents, they'd be right.
