Although several years late I see, the reason I like manga and anime is somehwat unknown to me, I enjoy the plots, the artwork, how fluid and detailed japanese animation is (with exceptions of course, such as that one Naruto Shippuden episode). I suppose for people such as ourselves it is easier to relate to and understand, given that I, and I'm sure many other "aspies" and autistics, have difficulty relating to other people via body language and facial expression. I do not understand body language what-so-ever and I am somewhat lacking in empathy. In Manga and Comic art expressions and possitions are rather exagerated when compared to actual life, which I suppose would make it easier to understand, relate to and empathize with. Also the goings on, are far more interesting in a manga than in real life. You can get the thrill without the danger.

My favorite manga are;

Blood+
One Piece
Needless
History's Strongest Deciple Kenichi
Dragonball
FairyTail
Naruto
Nazo no Kanojo X
To Love-ru Darkness
Gantz

Also I was wondering myself, how did you find out that manga and anime are a common interest within ASDs? I knew to a degree myself however, I am doing a university project based on Asperger's Syndrome and although I wish to include manga and anime into it at some point, I lack a statistic to back up my claims.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

That is a false assumption, because not all Aspies are even interested in manga, and fewer still are obsessed with it.

You're replying to a post from 6 years ago in one of Jelly's earliest threads on the forum. I'm sure she's adjusted her theory in the years that followed.

I don't even know what manga is.

You are correct.

I grew up surrounded by manga, i liked it as a child, until about junior high school, but i have never been obsessed with it.. And now as an adult, i have absolutely no interest in manga at all.. I don't hate it, i just don't care about it.. So much for the "Manga=ASD" theory.

My own feelings of Manga and in addition surrealism and caricature is a significant feeling of unease when viewing. I find it to be like viewing a skewed version of reality hat has been taken so far I can no longer process it properly.
