My mother would have preferred to stay single and in uniform, but got laid off. I, OTOH, always assumed I'd have a very painful breakdown in Basic Training.

Classic film Andrew , and it's exactly what sprung to mind when OP said pretending to be gay to dodge the draft.

Leroy is an awesome character ( Gary Busey at his best ) "I like pain , I like fights , I've dove through windows, I've eaten light bulbs, I like sharks, any kind of blood. If you gave me a gun, I'd shoot you in the face just to see what it looked like when the bullet hit."

Great film and a great quote Ferris. I've owned it on DVD for years and for years I've been waiting for a bloody blu-ray release

There's an interesting story behind the film. Apparently the director, John Milius, was friends with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. They all agreed to give each other a percentage point for each other's next film. So Milius got a percentage of Jaws and Star Wars, and the other two got a percentage of Big Wednesday and either Jaws or Star Wars. Obviously Milius came out on top as Big Wednesday was a huge flop. He says it took years for Lucas to get over that

It was the first film I ever bought , way back when VHS films were around £20 a pop. I can't believe it's not available on Blu-ray yet , at this rate it will come out on it's 50th Birthday

I didn't know that story about Milius , I bet he got a tidy pay day there

I've heard a similar story about one reason autism used to be midiagnosed for schizophrenia so often:

PSYCHIATRIST: Do you ever hear voices when there's no-one around?
