England is a foreign country. So English counts as a "foreign language". That's what Curly in Three Stooges always said. :D

How about Scots and Welsh?

Lol

I'm English and I lived in Strathclyde for a while. At first I had no idea what anyone was going on about. People would talk to me and I'd just be staring at them blankly thinking, I have no idea, no idea.

Also, the square sausages were a bit of a culture shock at first. Flat square sausage.

It says British Citizen on my passport, but I don't like to define myself by national boundaries (Scots, when pushed or I have to write something on a form). I have lived on this island all my life, barring trips, currently on Scotland's east coast, not too far from Edinburgh.

I'd be happy to make a new penfriend in Canada (or face-to-face or penfriends anywhere, if we have stuff in common).

I'm interested in natural history, outdoor stuff, horticulture and current affairs, some of this in an Aspie sort of way. The OP is encouraged to contact me, and I won't exactly be rude to anyone else.

Not just a British Isles thing either. I recall working with a colleague who was straight over from South Africa ( aka 'Sarth Ifrica'). On his first morning in the job, he asked me something, but I couldn't understand a word he said and didn't know how to make that clear without appearing insulting. I just tried to smile and kept nodding in the best BBC interviewer tradition. Eventually he gave up....

Yes, but Glaswegian barely qualifies as Scots, never mind English, which nobody would even claim it to be. Like Doric, it's divergent enough even from other forms of Scots to be arguably considered a different language.

I wouldn't eat either square sausage or "emulsified high-fat offal tube"*

I recall seeing a TV documentary about the troubles in Northern Ireland. Subtitles were used for some of the interviews with the locals.

I believe that Britains underlying legacy, has and always will be the power of free speech

In our sovereign times, you are all a born legacy and a tiny token of goodwill to your people

We are our own muses and societies diplomats

We were born to live and reign tall and proud

We are the land of hope and glory

We are Great Britain

All I can say is that there are so many different ways in which we see ourselves.

I don't relate, at all.

You just fall into it, it's like milking a cow without no udders.

I think the best of British have been the driving force of good humour, especially here

You either choose to abide by the manuscript or you die by it..simples

Maybe thats more gothic shakepearian than present resume actually..
