I guess it depends from state to state in the US and is definatly different in Europe then in the US in general.
Over here you always have tenure and they can't fire you for a medical reason like that. If your capable of doing your job but there are just some things like my communications problems and paperwork problems, a diagnosis will actually prevent you from getting fired. Without diagnosis, they simply say you didn't do your job and be done with it, with diagnosis it can be shown that your not lazy or doing your job badly, but certain aspects of the job need to be handled differently while the core part of the job, which should be your main field of interest, is done correctly.
I guess that the difference between a 100% capitalist state and a healthy mix between socialism and capitalism.
Imho its stupid for companies to fire people for AS if they are good at the core part of their job, I for instance don't mind working 16 hours a day for weeks at a time, if its in my field of interest, try getting a normal person to do that, not to mention that I can come up with a 1000 alternative ways to solve a problem that conventional thinkers would never have come up with and that when it comes to computers, I have an intuition normal people couldn't even dream about.
When it comes to computer, server and network diagnostics, I can simply look at and listen to what a machine is doing and know whats most likely wrong.
