To answer op's original question, yes. I like to quote things from sci-fi shows I've seen and I still get the same excited feelings that I feel when I first heard it. [ex. "Shiny" from Firefly, I still get butterfly type feelings in my stomach]

"Shiney" still makes me feel happy. It is also a good communication word- if I have had a disagreement with my husband and then we say "shiney" to each other I know that everything is OK.

I also use "my side, your side, my side, your side" from farscape when he puts things in the wrong place but I don't know if this is echolalia or just an easy way to say it without him feeling like I'm telling him off.

I do it, mostly, because it entertains me.

I guess part of it is the acoustics of the subway, though I do it in other places, too.

When I was in high school, I used to sing opera in the subways. That's how it all started.

Hahaha! Fantastic! You know, Kraftie, it's wonderful to be reminded that there is no law that says we all have to be serious and controlled all the time.

As a teenager I always thought it strange how other teenagers complained about adults destroying all their fun. The way I saw it, the true thought police were other teenagers who would punish any deviation from the norm.

I just realised that my house has really thick walls.......nobody can hear me

Shiney is a perfect word tbh. I can is it to mean: oh it's a pretty thing, or I'm okay, or situation is going okay/ I think we got this.
Also in honor of the word have a cute Kaylee saying the thing Image
Also for the Farscape quote (also is the show any good? I've got it on my to watch list), I think it's both. I do something similar with my dad where we quote shows back and forth to each other. It makes us laugh but it also serves as a way of checking in and it helps me with my desire to randomly repeat the earworms festering in my brain. Example: he and I quote Wash's first lines of the series to each other from time to time. It's our thing now
