Accent-blind?

The people "down the shore," as far as I know, speak with more of a Philly accent. Which sounds, superficially, like a NYC accent--though there are subtle differences.
Philly's definitely it's own thing in the mid-Atlantic. Here in Michigan people don't believe I'm from Jersey because I have the much milder Philly accent rather than the more distinctive (but less known) South Jersey nasal accent or the Northern twang. It comes out if I get excited about my "Iggles" or a proper san'wich - 'wiz, wid', of course - more identifiable are the 'regionalisms' - You'se, hoagie, down the shore, complaining about lack of decent bread this side of Mt Pocono, etc.
I'll have to give you the 'shore as a sub-category of accent and a blend of Philly and NYC accents.

Listen to Bruce Springsteen talk sometime. He grew up in Freehold. Does he have a NYC accent?
Freehold is right on the edge of North/South line (ie 195 to route 9, to LBI), but Bruce's accent? A little bit, yeah. Just enough to put him in the region, but its there, particularly in his "throw away words", when he's thinking about what to say.
