People are not completely predictable but they aren't entirely random either. They have patterns and synchronicity that are necessary for human survival and for human society to function and an underlying psychology that facilitates this.

All species do.

I have great awareness of how people interact, and a lot of it has to be ignored because they don't realize how disgusting they are at logic and ethics. What I can't imagine is lying, even "in character." I can't even do those brain teasers involving known liars.

Oh I agree. My ideal species would be more logical and ethical than this one...of course that's by my human standards and ideas of logic and ethics.

But there are two types of logic. "Absolute" logic...the kind that mathematics is based on, and "evolutionary logic" and many of the 'illogical" things humans do stem from evolutionary logic.

^^ Apologies for the thread hijack. I think that Sociobiology and related sciences did wonders for showing how a childless aunt or uncle actually increased their biological fitness by helping their siblings raise related children. The more I looked, the more logic I saw in ancient conundrums between the genders, and the fewer people would talk to me about them.

I think understanding evolutionary psychology can be very helpful to those on the spectrum, but those who are not on the spectrum tend to find it upsetting.

I don't know to say you can learn social skills from tv. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that.

Hi, i have mild autism (aspergers syndrome) and social anxiety. So i think i have very less social/communication skills. And I heard that some movies/series can help me improve and learn social skills, is it true? and which series or movies do you think are helpful for this?

You learn by doing. That said for some tips you might turn to a how-to book, like "Just be yourself" (The name is a bit tongue and cheek -- it's written for people who feel like that is rubbish advice).

Turning to a movie to learn social skills is a mistake, I think, because movies are designed to entertain rather than to teach. That is, they play into fears and weaknesses and group think. The point of communication is authentic connection. Movies are rooted in fantasy, not authenticity.

it's called life and all you need to do is step outside. There's romance, heartache, humor, and tragedy. it's a wild bloody ride. That's why i stay inside.

I don't mean to be an a** but if you could learn social skills from the pictures and TV i think more of us would be better at it, and it would make life SO much easier if i could watch bad boys 2 and suddenly know the ins and outs of banter between m8s.

Sorry m8, there ain't a life hack that easy.

watching comedies helps me a lot - as well as helping my mood - have you seen community (tv show)? i basically did an intensive course on humour through there (and it's funny when abed said he also learnt social rules from tv, made my experience more meta) :p also rupaul's drag race is great to learn how to structure sassy come backs which make you seem more likeable and down to earth lol

you have a point but i do think it helps to watch successfully sociable people in action. it's all about mimicking their behaviour - see what they do right and practice it in a real life context so i think the question is valid :p

Some folks here may think of entertainment as just escape, but people have successfully made it a study, to learn English or other things. The less you understand it, the easier it is to stay engaged, instead of slipping into the semi-hypnotic trance of most viewers.
