I don't like walking down the same road twice, actually. So, as an adult, I tend to have one loosely defined interest for a few years, then I hit the point of not being able to go further, or something else changes in my life, and I turn to something new.
I wish I could "rotate" back to previous interests - it would certainly help my career - but once I'm done I seem to be done for good.
