Lacan is virtually impenetrable to me. I had to read at least some of his stuff and it really made no sense to me whatsoever. Language can be very slippery when used to obscure rather than enlighten.

I like the cut of your jib (not sure what exactly that means). I'll give you a thousand points for your words of wisdom.

Yes, please, go ahead and make a post about those blasted imaginary numbers! They're all fake, anyway.

you sure?

and where did i get 20 points from?

this sounds like unwarranted pointage to me.

Yes, I never cared for calculus much. I found those imaginary numbers suspicious right from the start; and, when they colluded with the numbers that keep it real, numbers only became more complicated.

In this case, I awarded you a +1,000,000,020 point adjustment on a whim. Yes, my whim is one of the specific criteria!

I am not sure what that means either, so I have interpreted it to mean 'style of argument', 'line of reasoning', or something similar.

I looked up the phrase on Urban Dictionary and these two definitions give some insight into what the term might mean:

To snowboard on something other than snow... logs, grass... etc.
"We jibbed the woods today"

and

a way of being or thinking. I like the cut of your jib.

I am not sure the above definitions help matters, they seem to obscure rather than enlighten.

it's the second version, i do believe. well, that's the one i've always used/understod.

snowboarding is a bit recent, isn't it? (said she, the dinosaur )

I drew something last night, so now I think it's time I gave the right hemisphere of my cortex a rest. This thread opposes all things general, generally speaking. Specificity, detail, and accuracy are paramount! This is a game; you will be rewarded points for your participation. The winner gets a particular prize I am thinking of right now.

You may choose from these specific topics:

  • States and their respective capitals (5 points)
  • Differentiating between Asperger's syndrome and other mental or behavioral disorders (10 points for each disorder distinguished)
  • Kant's categorical imperative (25 points per thread with a maximum of 75 points)
  • Beatles' lyrics (1,000 points total; to be distributed as I see fit)
  • The price of gasoline (petroleum) (3 points per capita)
  • Phonetics (25 points per thread)
  • Phonology (25 points per thread)
  • U.S. national politics (15 points per thread)

I will also use other specific criteria to award points. For bonus points!, guess what I'm thinking.

I am actually in second? Wow! republicans and democrats must be jumping up and down in a totally bipartisan way right about now and singing "let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be, whisper words of wisdom, let it be!"
