If you go to New Hamster, you will want to resist any urge that may possess you to settle in either Manchester or Nashua. Really. --Also you can expect the cost of a place to live to be quite high, though not as high as California.

Richard I thought this summer you said you were moving to Mexico. Why New Hampshire now? Does you're SSI amount change if you move? I don't know how that works. But if not you better research online the costs of living. Parts of New England and the Northern states are worse than here. The Southeast is cheaper to live in, but I can't recommend anyone moving to the southern hell-holes having escaped the South myself.

I wouldn't recommend North Texas either. I myself am clambering to get out of this ultra-conservative sh*thole.

I was going to leave a post saying the same thing. Thanks for saying it for me : )

SSDI payments cease when you live outside the US and it's territories. --I found this out from somebody who collects SSDI.

The only other aspie I have known (who I thought was an aspie) is my father, and our relationship was very troublesome. He was horribly emotionally (and sometimes physically) abusive toward me.

Now, he is 88 years old, and we get along fine. However, it took me a long time to work out the bad feelings I had for the man.

Weirdo works for me, I cross cultural well.

Never met any in real life, that I knew for sure.

I have my doubts, the old seem to have adapted out, become something.

Mid range more like me, I knew I was weird, but I just did it, lived, and thought it was me.

We might have learned to swim due to people trying to drownd us, but we did learn.

The since 1994 set I worry about, treatment seems to ret*d development.

We just grew through that stage, went on, it is just a herd of dumb humans.

Aspies are not the strangest people I have ever met by a longshot.

I will never know till I meet some.

I can understand the fraud feeling, some people label me as AS already, and i reject it.

I do not think i have AS personally, i just scanned youtube and the aspie people are so obvious to me, the blankness on there faces, im not like this. However every post i read describes me, the way your all think is identical, no doubt there is something different and adnormal about me, but i would not call it AS, and i hope it is not, maybe i can be near a NT person one day, but i doubt it.

Several psychiatrists however think i am, and are assessing me soon. But surely by just looking at me they should know?????

Then again I did experience what you explained of all but one of the Aspies I have ever met, including females, were all very loud, would not shut up for one second to let you get a word in on the conversation and I am very quiet most of the time. So I find other AS irritating in person. Apparently I may be mild AS yet I will stim more than those who are said to be worse Aspies or even Kanners. I've kinda been questioning my own diagnoses even though I've been diagnosed 3 times with Aspergers. I'm definitely not normal. I am beginning to think I should just go back to my original self diagnosis of "weirdo" and leave it at that. I am so frustrated by other AS, the local AS group and even get peeved at co-workers I know have AS even if they don't know.

I dont agree. I've met various people on here with wildly different personalities, of both sexes! To say one sex denotes a persons complete personality, even with AS, is completely false. I have personally seen a large amount of anecdotal evidence to the contrary of your observations, in some cases incredibly so. Furthermore, I've met people of opposite sexes who were incredibly similar to each other, so that would fly in the face of your dichotomy between the sexes.

It would seem that not only does nature play a role in personality shaping, but nurture as well. Just because someone is of a particular sex and disposition does not automatically give a whole personality construct, but instead gives only particular traits. These traits do not make the opposite sexes vastly different, only slightly, and even that can be argued. What really matters is the environment they grew up in, and how that molded the person they are today. In my various observations, I have not noticed a concrete difference between AS men and women; the differences vary wildly, and in some cases the person might be very similar to another of the opposite sex.

In response to the original poster, I would have to say mixed. Many aspie's Ive met were not what I expected. They were usually damaged, incredibly naive, and socially awkward. These various conditions caused very different manifestations of said condition to occur, but the result was always the same : unpleasantness. However, I have met some incredibly awesome, zany people, who are also very smart. They are easy to get along with, and incredibly eclectic. What Im trying to get at is, the quality of people on here has been along an entire spectrum. Im entirely happy I've met the people that I have, but am also glad to not be speaking to many of them. There are probably many more people that are awesome just like the people I've described, and I'd be happy to meet them. Like the NT world, aspies can definitely be a mixed bag, and just because they share the same neurological condition as you, does not necessarily mean you will get along. Nurture goes a long way.

I was diagnosed with AS. However, my psychiatrist told me that he would never have guessed it from my appearance or behavior. He based his diagnosis entirely on my personal history. I am very practiced acting NT.

Kalister1, how many people have you met that have Asperger's?

Online? Maybe a dozen. Offline? Maybe a half a dozen, at least that I've talked to in the last 2 years and can recall. My memory is always hazy at best.

I should have been more specific. I meant how many AS people have you met offline, in person?

Maybe a half a dozen, all of them in school. While its very difficult to go up to someone and ask if they have "AS", I have noticed certain traits consistent with the description of AS, leading me to suspicions. I have volunteered at various ACM competitions (and other activities which are normally associated with AS.), been in various classes that I've noticed distinct individuals giving off signs of AS, and other times I've just noticed them while engaged in conversation. Most of my life consists of home, school, and library, so unless I was to become employed to supervise at a ward housing Aspergerians, I could not have more contact with AS individuals than I already have.

On the same note, they were all different, but shared those common "odd" traits that Asperger's seems to give. Of course, they could just be weird, and Im living in another reality. I like to think I can notice when people are different, but maybe I just can't. Thats a consideration.. Most of them were very friendly, and quite intelligent.
