what disagreement?

i'm confused.

and Blade - me too. as i said, i have no disagreement with anyone on this board, on a personal level. i don't always agree with everybody, but that's not the same thing at all.

have just been talking about this to someone, and feel it's useful to post it here.

as i said, i've been active politically (with a small "p") for 30 years. EOpps issues are second nature to me, and i tend to take them for granted, so it's hard for me to explain, sometimes. i'll explain what i mean by this.

do you take something for granted so much, cos it's second nature to you, that you find it hard to explain? example - i ask kids at school to write out the instructions for making a cup of tea. they ALWAYS miss something out - they forget to mention that you need a spoon for sugar, or that you have to plug in the kettle before you switch it on, etc. these things are so obvious, we forget that someone else might not know them. are you with me?

that's what it's like for me - the basic stuff on EOpps is so ingrained in me, that i forget other people don't have a clue what i'm on about. add to that AS stuff about theory of mind, and... waaaaaah!

so, i apologise to anyone whose back i've put up. i forgot my own rule, which is "go to where people are, not where you think they should be". doesn't mean i've changed my mind about anything, just that i see now where i should be going.

the only thing i ask is for people to listen, to ask questions, and to trust that, even if you absolutely can't see why someone is offended, the fact is that they are offended.

That seems very wise Vetivert. I also agree with the fact that we can not always/if ever understand why something might offend someone else but we do have to accept that others have reactions for a reason.

What was your life when you were 13 ? I am aware it is a very indiscreet question; so if you don't want to answer, no problem

What does "EOpps" mean; the meaning I've found does not match that context.

i started small - local action about environmental issues. my life at 13 was... well, i would have called it bizarre, but probably, many of you would recognise certain patterns

i was a loner, i was a bit of a prodigy, i was into everything, and never had anyone to talk to, cos no-one had a clue what i was on about (quantum physics at 9? forget it, little Vivi). i studied at school (wasn't difficult for me). i spent all my time reading or playing music (piano, guitar, percussion, voice, recorders, yada, yada). sound familiar, anyone? political issues intrigued me, because i have a ridiculously huge "Injustice" button in me, somewhere. to me, injustice is wrong. simple.

EOpps = Equal Opportunites. and i don't mean "PC" (politically correct), cos an awful lot of that crowd are maniacs, and take things far too far.

is that any help? i'm better if you ask specifics, otherwise i go on, and on, and on... sorry

Yes well I certainly don't like sexist images or comments so I think Vetivert you are doing a very good job as forum moderator.

At 13, I was far from the idea of being politically active because I was very immature, which was one more issue for me as my classmates were older than me.
If I could have found a place like WP at that time, it would have been such a relief.

I am new here but have experience of other forums as a user or as a mod. For me, mods are like soccer referees. No referees, well, no matches. Yes, sometimes their decisions may be misunderstood or even wrong. But if both referees AND players behave honestly, on the whole the match will be fairly refereed.
