I see your point with thimerosal, I really do. But mercury IS all over the place, and poisoning doesn't mimic autism.

You can't reason with cranks trapped in their own circular reasoning. any and all criticism of their beliefs is considered "shilling" and is thus ignored.

Not at all; I've never said I believe everything some other people on here say, I don't believe thimerosal necessarily causes autism, and I've never used the word 'shilling' as I'm not sure entirely what it means - and I've never used anything similarly derogatory. Thank you.

That's why I'm actually making a New Year's resolution, for the first time in decades. I resolve that, at least for this year, I'm going to stop trying to educate people who obviously don't want to be educated, and won't let little things like peer-reviewed research, logic, or statistical analysis methods get in the way of their anecdotally-supported preconceptions. I think it'll benefit my blood pressure no end.

Can I just point out something... although anecdotal evidence is just that, it does provide the basis for the majority of studies ("Oh, why is this happening? Let's find out...") and so shouldn't necessarily be discounted so quickly.

I'm still not sure what to believe on a lot of this; if a study is peer-reviewed and unbiased by funding or links to the company/companies in question, then I'm all up for paying attention to it. The problem is, those studies are hard to find and you have to wade through miles of sludge to get there. Ditto for studies that say, as an example (I don't believe this is necessarily true) thimerosal causes autism, yet are written by people who have no understanding of the processes behind it or the benefit of peer review or whatever, and are literally either paranoid web-cranks or lawyers out to make a quick buck.

Truly unbiased studies are a rare thing, but the ones I'm most likely to listen to. There's a lot of conflicting information on both sides of the fence, so right now I'm happily going to sit with one foot firmly in each field.

Smoking what?

Smoking meat. You do know I was lamely attemtping to be facetious - given absurdity of the OP.

How? Please explain your proof, I'm interested to know. And don't quote from wikipedia or that crankwatch site or whatever it's called, which is out to disprove anything complementary or non-standard from the outset, so automatically biased.

Millions of people who are privvy to the information he provides and who have benefitted from his research and knowledge have nothing but positive things to say about his work. It's rather rude to go about calling people quacks when you have nothing to support that claim.

You're engaging in circular reasoning, again.

That's beside the point; give me some evidence that Dr Joseph Mercola is a quack.

He's helped a lot of people heal themselves and his ideas on nutrition are generally extremely good.

So, again. Evidence?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul4ixNA3Yts heres some youtube stuff on dr joseph mercola I'm watching it, but I am not getting into the middle of quack as it takes time to uncover truth...

My view is its pointless in taking a multi vit product that one is on his site as a should take, you just waste tones of money if you don't take them at the right time for you, or know what ones you need, & in the end it will do nothing, & it's safer not to take it ...

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow that post...

There's nothing on there telling you you have to buy his products at all - if you don't want to then don't. I don't see why people make such a big thing of that. They're just ones he would suggest as he's found them to be good - many people wouldn't know where to start looking for supplements or probiotics and other things he talks about, so I know plenty are probably grateful he puts some up there so they can take them. I've never bought anything off his website, and I don't feel under any obligation to. I also don't have any problem with him selling things; he's got to make money somehow, and with the way he pumps all the good info out to people who need it then more power to him.

He's good buddies with convicted grand larcenist Kevin Trudeau, who claims the same stuff that Mercola does.

Oh and for the record, the Wikipedia article on Mercola is as unbiased as it gets. It also links to outside references not named "Quackwatch".

Ok, I've seen the Wikipedia article about him vandalised a few times with things that aren't true about his beliefs etc, which is why I'm wary of people using it as a reference - fair enough if it's all ok at the moment though!!

Who's Kevin Trudeau? And how do you know they're friends etc?

(For the record, the core of Mercola's beliefs aren't exactly groundbreaking or heretical; simply that you'll stay healthy by exercising and by eating the food we're designed to eat, i.e. lots of organic veges, fruit, grass-fed meat, organic nuts/seeds, fresh, pure water, etc. It's not difficult or unusual or anything 'crazy').
