hookah bars are pretty popular with young people around here. i dont like them... some people say it isnt bad for you, but how could it not be bad? you're still inhaling tobacco smoke... the water chamber isn't a carcinogen receptacle or something. ah well. makesmy stomach hurt anyway, but some of the bars are fun - good loud (arabic?) music!

Ooooooh are these like those Indian bong things where the smoke goes through a chamber of water? Cool!

...still makes me think of hookers!

I tried it once back in '98. It was interesting and I liked it ( Cherry or Rasberry tobacco, I forget which) but don't see the need to spend $60-100 for a smoking implement. On the other hand though, I didn't touch a cigarette for about three hours afterwards.

Tobacco actually COMES in those flavours?

You have to understand that it's special tobacco made for smoking in a Narghileh (Hookah).The tobacco is usually imported from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, or the UAE, and is blended with preserved fruit and molasses. Because of it's moisture content, you have to use a piece of self lighting charcoal (Not unlike the stuff used in Churches) to keep the tobacco burning. Check out the Variety of Tobacco here:

Err... self lighting charcoal? How would you transport it? Wouldn't it just ignite? And since when do churches use charcoal or any sort? *is now officially curious... again! *

Catholic churches have some sort of ritual involving a priest and some charcoal. I'll let you have fun figuring out how it works, I can't be bothered to attempt an explanation.

Yes on ash wednesday they rub charcoal on your head to make the sign of the cross.

Oh well duh! Lol, just couldn't think of any regular uses for it! But... hang on... noo! The ashes that they use on Ash Wednesday are SUPPOSED to be the ashes of last years palms used on Palm Sunday!

Sunday is when Baywatch came on over here so i used to call every sunday palm sunday.

i have no idea why they call it "self igniting charcoal", as it doesn't self ignite at all, is a bugger to light, and you always end up with one side lit and the other sider sulking. they're little discs of charcoal, which you use to burn incense - easy to get hold of. i use it for that very purpose. they're used in a thurible in the catholic church.

the ashes on ash wednesday ARE the ashes of the palms from the pervious year's palm sunday.
burning incense is about purification.

i was a catholic until my very early 30s, kitten.

a thurible is something you put the charcoal on. in churches, they use a "censer", which is the thing swung on the end of a chain, which sends out the incence smoke.
