Being NT, I do not have to worry about any negative implications that a diagnosis might have. But I talk about WP all the time, to everyone. I have tried to go a whole day without mentioning someone here.

My husband and I were driving. He remarked, "Do you realise you have been talking about WP for 3 hours?"

No, because only my friends and family know, and I've figured out that I shouldn't be around people who would judge me like that (Which is hard to see sometimes, but I have help with that)

I hope someone I know reads my posts on WP. If someone takes the time to come here and learn about AS, then they are probably more open minded, understanding, and accepting than the average person. I don't think most people who read someones post here will think negatively of the person. I think you are more likely to make a friend if someone reads your posts here.

I don't tell anyone about this forum. They simply don't need to know.

I bring up the board every once in a while. Everyone I talk to about it already knows that I have AS, so it's not that big of a deal. I bring it up because sometimes topics I find on the board have relevance to the conversation I'm in.

only 4 people know; my wife, a close friend's wife (and presumably him), one guy at work who has an AS stepson (trying to talk him into having the guy come by here..;), and that's it. I like the place, but I wouldn't come here from work. It's accepted legal and business practice that you are accorded no privacy whatsoever from using the Internet at work. They can, and do monitor people all the time.

I have to figure out a way to tell my parents (they're around 80, so I'm not sure if they will understand).

pakled, I just told my Mum, whose in her 70's, eight years after dx. It was...err... a bit of a non-event. [After surviving WW2 in Europe as a kid, everything must seem a bit "what's the big deal?"]

I only worry about my ex finding me and dragging things that I post into court. He's done it before. Stalked me on myspace and cafemom. He's a sociopath with a good lawyer. I live in a great deal of ambiguity because of this.

But other people, I don't care if they know I'm here, I often tell people to come here and use it as a resource.

I post under the name 9CatMom because I wouldn't want people at work finding out about my suspected AS. Of course, if they read about my cats, they would probably be able to figure out it is me.

I have told a few people about Wrong Planet as a way of educating them about autism issues but I don't necessary say that I post there. I'm not too afraid of people finding out, because unless you are "in the know" about ASD's you aren't likely to go there; unlike MySpace and other sites. I already have a reputation for being "strange" so if it did get out that I was posting on Wrong Planet it wouldn't really affect me much--the exception is if my employer found out, there might be repercussions as they do not know I am ASD. But I don't think they really care about that, they are more concerned about confidentiality breaches. So I try not to say anything that would get me in trouble that way.

For example I had a conversation with the clerk at the video rental store about the movie "Martian Child" and she said she knew someone with an autistic kid, so I was able to direct her to some resources including this site. Most people that I have brought up the subject with are rather open-minded, especially if they have family members who are ASD. But then you have a few who don't know and don't care, so there is no use talking to them.

I haven't been on here long enough to tell anyone, which I probably won't. It's none of their business.

But I don't really care if anyone finds out, everyone already hates me.

And I wouldn't have it any other way!!
