Yes, however, I love handling pet snakes. It gives me the thrill that some people get from riding rollercoasters.

My aunt is terrified of snakes, my mother is terrified of spiders and I have never been afraid of either. I do have a yellowjacket hornet phobia, however. Other bees and wasps don't bother me, just yellowjackets.

I am mostly not afraid of snakes though I do respect snakes.

For example, in the summer when I was doing my laps I came across a pygmy rattlesnake along my path, I widened my path to avoid it, continued running along and when I was back to the spot on the next lap the snake was gone.

That is pretty much how I treat snakes, give them space whether I think I can identify them or not, maybe take a good look from a safe distance and move on. The worst I have seen here are the pygmy and have seen some copperheads along, we mostly get garter snakes and little green snakes.
In Florida we had some things that I was afraid of though as they were known to give chase from time to time. Those are called "spot it, back way the frick up, and get outa there" snakes (Eastern Diamondbacks, Cotton Mouths). I still would still go play in the woods though.

I am afraid of yellow jackets too. I had a bad experience with them when I was about 4. The short story is my brother stirred up a yellow Jackets nest and ran crying back toward me and my grandmother, jackets in tow, causing me to also get stung, about 8-10 times. I also partially blame the Krispy Kreme donuts we had just eaten, sticky glaze still clinging to our chubby little hands.

I love snakes. I cuddle mine.

I love the way their scales feel. So sleek and smooth. And I love the color patterns. And the fact that they don't make any noise (except the occasional hiss, or tail shaking). It's easy to become obsessed with them.

The only study that i have read that seems relevant concluded that young children were more INTERESTED in snakes, spiders, etc. They would closely watch other people interact with them and use that knowledge to form their own fascinations and fears. Personally i love snakes, i have six, and i spend alot of time trying to teach people that they are not dangerous or evil. The main factor often seems to be the attitudes of their teachers and parents, if they were taught that nature is to be respected or had an encounter with snakes alone then without fail they will come to like snakes. If on the other hand they had a bad experience or were taught to fear and hate them then the chances are not as good.

I tried to link two images of an aprox. 10inch Mississippi ring neck snake which was an adult at that size, hardly worth being afraid of, but i didn't have enough posts. Very few snakes are large enough or venomous enough while having large forward placed fangs to cause any harm to humans, even the most dangerous snakes in north america really are not that dangerous. Somewhere between five and twelve people die per year from snake bites while nearly twenty die from dog bites. =/

I don't, but my mom is insanely afraid of them. She screamed when I showed her a wooden snake I bought once

Snakes don't scare me very much at all.

Spiders are a different story.

have held and stroked a corn snake before,am not hater of any living thing,everything has got their place on the world.

Corn snakes are the best. So docile and sweet.

No. I was not afraid of snakes except for venomous ones which I don't see as a "phobia".
