Do you have a problem hearning things sometimes?

this happens to me ALL the time. there are two scenarios that usually happen:
A) in the course of a conversation they'll say something i'm not expecting them and it will just breeze past me; or
B) if i'm not expecting them to say anything at all to me, like walking past someone in the grocery store.

in either case it won't register for several seconds. when it does finally hit me i'll get flustered and embarrassed.


This ALWAYS happens with me. people alway ask why I say "What?" even though I know what they said and I'll respond before they repeat what they said.

errgh, people will switch topics subtly, and I'll be the only one still talking about something they said ten minutes ago. I feel like such a conversation-dork. I prefer to say very little, and just concentrate on following what everyone is saying!

Me too. I have hearing that can pick up very minute sounds but I miss many thing in conversations and need to ask people to repeat themselves frequently.

I also have a hearing delay. I've been told it's probably CAPD- Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Someone will say something to me and it doesn't register until after I ask, "huh?" This is a normal thing for me. It happens in comfortable environments with my family. My husband will now just say, "wait for it" when I ask "Huh?" LOL! 90% of the time I pick it up.

I also can't filter out background noise. It is terrible. I can't center in on conversation or TV or anything when there's background noise. This is one reason I don't listen to music much at home any more. I've got 4 kids to listen to and can't have the distraction.

I have very acute hearing for high-pitched sounds and low-frequency sounds though. I can pick up noises others can't. I can hear the electricity coursing through the lines in the house if my room is very quiet. It used to drive me nut because I couldn't figure out what the noise was. I also can't stand ticking clocks and things like that. My hubby used to have watch that I made him leave downstairs at night when he took it off. It would drive me insane. For these reasons I have to have a fan running for the white noise to drown out all the other stuff.

I get this too. Sometimes its worse than others.
