ya knom I have seen a lot of diagnosis snobbery. Like I am not really an aspie because I am self diagnosed. But I have seen threads just like this one many times. And I know what AS is, and I know what I am, and I do not need the confirmation of some entee who does not in any way experience spectrum issues in his life - but onve read a damn book.

I often see that people come here to rant about not getting the diagnosis and not accept that it could happen that their self diagnosis wasn't as good as the therapist's , but you actually have a good case cause her reasoning was dumb enough to disqualify her, so just pick another diagnoser.

Maybe she fancies you. Do you get that vibe? I do from mine. She keeps crossing her legs and dangling her shoe off the ends of her toes. 8O Either way run!

If you go to a new therapist, be sure that they have experience working with people on both ends of the autistic spectrum, and they have real credentials. The term "therapist" is often unregulated and can be used by someone who never finished elementry school as easily as someone with a phd in abnormal psychology.

If your therapist is making a pass at you it's time to get a new one! What are you paying them for? To make passes at you or to actually help you with your life?

I had this one therapist who wanted me to keep a journal and complained every week that what I was writing wasn't enough. I got the feeling he wanted me to write about my sexlife and that's why he was really complaining.

That's good advice. Does this woman you see actually know anything about AS. If she does she isn't doing a great job with you.

In the spirit of Spudnik's song, please say 'adieu' to your piece-of-_ _ _ _ therapist.
From one pretty Autist to a pretty Aspie, mysterious_misfit, this is the ultimate in sweet ladylike good-bye! Courtesy of (cheesy) musical 'The Sound of Music.' Must watch/listen! So beautifully appropriate.....ahhh:

Yeah really. That's really bizarre that the therapist would even think that. It doesn't make sense. Wonder what Heather Kuzmich who has AS and was on “America’s Next Top Model” would have to say about that one.

Oh, you may, corroonb. Sing!

I just gag that I'm not in the von Trappe family.......but so clueless therapist appropriate. Did you see the guy in the red neoprene North Face jacket? Huh? I thought this was the Swiss Alps. At the beginning of the clip I'm quite sure the von Trappe girl flashed her panties too. Now that's not ladylike. Oooo, is my autism showing? I feel so pretty.

Thanks! It was a nice musical, and it was surprising to see all of them reprising their roles. A bit sad that so much has changed. 8-(

Yep, my short stature, big nose, lack of a waist and cellullite are all due to AS.

I was lucky to be so ugly that I got a diagnosis out of my therapist right away.

8O :)

I just made a list of my AS characteristics in a spiral bound notebook. Each is just a short note of a few words. It took up two pages front and back. If you want, I can list them here....

Dx is important to me because I think one of my children may have AS. It would be helpful and relevant for me to be able to tell his pediatrician that I have it, and so get him into early intervention.

All kidding aside, you have a really important point. I think it's worthwhile you're pursuing this and you mentioned you have children. But, might you consider switching therapists? A good therapist/psychologist/diagnostician is vital, especially for your children. The one you have seems inept. May be a good investment to find one who is reputable. I do know what you mean about certain select therapists harboring a bias against physical attractiveness - it's just not fair. Our neuropathy, behaviors, history, etc is what counts!

I'm sure you can find better.....worth the effort. I didn't realize you had children. You could submit your compiled list to a (competent) therapist and this would really help them understand better. I am not a parent. But some parents from WP have related that videotaping their children in action, like at a 'normal' home or school setting, can be very enlightening to an otherwise clueless psychologist trying to make an assessment. Good idea!
