Without a computer my social life would go to hell and I would have to find other ways to occupy my time. I would have to make more trips to the library and pester my close acquaintances more often.

I'd be anally raped like Tom Dubois in that dream he had in the Boondocks. Seriously, I can't write for s**t and to be good at it I have to slow down and s**t that would cramp and f**k my hands up in writing quickly, I would have to walk to a f*****g library for information, etc. And I wouldn't be able to get alternative news/d/l anime/shows/etc.

I don't need the internet - when I go away, I take my laptop, but I don't always go online. It's not the net I need. It's the ability to write that's my fixation. I've written stories since I was very small and these days I type them because it's easier to edit and store than writing by hand. So aside from missing my online japanese dictionary...the need for my computer stems more from story production than it does online connection

I'm fine communicating with family, colleagues and friends face to face, and I deal with strangers in the library every day so I don't think my social levels would drop. When I went to York recently I was travelling alone, but wound up talking to one woman on the train about the awful UK rail service, and other people in various places while I was there. I didn't have a net connection for that time - actually chose not to because of the additional cost of it - and it was fine.

So yeah. I need the computer, but not the internet (Does that make me antisocial?)

I have mixed feelings to the time spent here at the screen. As a good friend of mine said its a bit like gambling "You are losing most of the time yet there are little glimmers of hopes and wins that hook you on for more".

Sometimes lits like an addictive arcade game. My times are two hours at breakfast, half hour in from work then two hours ten thirty to half midnight - which I am now managing-ish sort of to maybe reduce by a full third.

Blogging is now to a minimum and for language learning I much prefer books and pen and paper. a local remaindered bookshop often has some good books at low cost so recently that is drawing me off the screen here. I find it to be A FACT that I get far more done without the pc switched on re study and learning.

So now its generally switch on, look at a couple of forums, couple of blogs and emails then off again. Yet .........thats done three times a day at present

I would go insane! But then again once school comes I'm not online for hours on end I just check my email, facebook, be on AIM while trying to write papers.

I get bored and agitated if I dont have my computer and internet, but I can survive without it.
