Forget about it. I read about a reporter who had lived in Thailand for 20 years and he came to the sad conclusion he was leaving the country without having made any real friends.
We are either falangs, gajins or gringos, but most westerners have a battle uphill integrating, so that's why you find so many expat commnuities where they can bemoan their fate and how bad and stupid the locals are. They create their bubble as we do here on WP

What a sad way to think of it. I just preferred to know that my time in Asia was better served knowing that it was okay to not fit in because it was almost expected to be weird.
