Would you live in a commune designed for autistic people?

I don't like the idea of living in an all-autistic environment, no matter what sort of environment it is.

I also don't really like the idea of living in a commune, but then I know too many people who've either grown up in them, or moved to them and found them really destructive, sometimes cultlike, etc.

I also don't like the idea of moving somewhere, that would make it difficult to leave again. Like if the commune somehow handled services in order to be self-sufficient, that would mean that I would have to depend on other people there and it would be a hassle, sometimes an impossibility, to get services on the outside again.

No commune at all, thanks.

kind of goes against natural autistic tendancies to avoid othersin some ways; i'd hate any kind of forced community- even a cummune has to have meetings- i'd hate that. i love living ina city as i am pretty annonymous; growing up in a small village was vile; everyone knew when i acted up, and dissaproved of the way i dressed.
i would prefer to live in a small 1940s town, without the war, and with more tolerant (and less nosey) values. ina really big house surrounded by fields, so noone could see me, and i wouldnt have to see anyone unless i wanted to.

I get too much entertainment out of laughing on the inside at stupid "normal" people around me.

Interesting idea. Would it be like the Amish? Except with electricity ! ! We could all wear comfy clothes all the time, and wouldn't have to interact unless we felt like it.

Commune? Never.

An all-ASD environment would also be vastly incompatible with my autism.

I also like a regular place with lots of people better. I personally already hate to hang out with a group of several people of a certain type, it gets monotonous and annoyingly otherworldly to my mind.

I value my independence too highly to live in any kind of commune- I need my own space so that I can live by my own rules.

But I'm an NT, and my best friend (actually, my only friend) has AS and is one of the smartest people I know, and I am a good deal more intelligent from knowing him. And additionally, I think he also got something from his friendship with me.

So my question is, even though a commune would make life easier, don't you think by limiting yourself you would also be crippling yourself, since the variety of experience gives richness to life?

I would love to start one maybe in the mountains here in Alberta, it would have to be off the grid, and to be totally self reliant.

The Amish are a little too rigid and strict. It would be nice to be amongst spiritual people but I definitely am not wanting to live amongst religious people. Comfy clothing would be great. We can omit all of the expected attire and just where whatever the hell we want.
I'd like to be around peaceful people so vegetarianism would be great but if you want to go out and kill something I can't judge you for that. However, let's boycott the Walmarts and factory farmed food or anything elsea that could dumb us down. Computers are a necessity so they would probably be at the center of the commune.

The reason why I want this is to take back personal power and freedom. I have children and I don't want them to grow up thinking they have to be slaves to an establishment. Is anyone familiar with Pythagoras and the commune he created? That is what I want.

For those who say that we need to live in the NT world, I disagree. Henry David Thoreau is immortal now and for what? He moved to the woods and stopped paying taxes. Sure he went to jail but if we have enough aspie heads together we should be able to bust the system and solve some problems.

a commune, well no. I think by its nature it would be to limiting. A aspie city, or better an aspie nation, I think would be a great thing if we can avoid war with the NTs. A society that focuses on intellectual advancement and a non-generalist based educational system sounds rather ideal. But who would do the grunt work? Unless we have a massive robotic work force there will be menial labor, something I am betting most aspies just wouldn't do

By Amish, I meant their simplicity. Simple wooden homes, natural fabric clothing, growing your own crops. Being friendly with other people in the community. Appreciating wildlife. Maybe windmills to generate electricity. No groceries brought in from chain stores. That sort of thing ...

Nah, definitely not for me.
