Sometimes my brain stops in group meetings at work, which is the worst, which, actually, is probably why it happens there --the most is on the line; i.e. stress.

I can push through, but it's obvious I am having trouble speaking. It takes a lot of mental preparation and talking myself down to prevent such events. I get really nervous too (anyone else have that).

I don't think my symptoms are quite as sever as the others here, since I can work through it, mostly.

hi- Mixtli- yes, i get that all too...

ive removed most of the big stressors in my life, so now i only get the 'trouble speaking' bit a lot, rather than an utter inability. but i dont work and stay in a lot- people are a real problem for me, so im not really much better off; i hvae no life to speak of.

i did find yoga really helpful for generally calming me down- hatha, not ashtanga, since its very calming, and teaches you lots of breathing exercises. though i dont do it anymore.....

thanks- thats very interesting.
i liked the bit about cocaine high- i get that occasionally- FUN! but i have always thought it was some kind of muteness- its like that bit of my brain is just damaged- like tempry blindness or something; i simply cant talk. its not really an avoidance mechanism. ive not had it fully for awhile, but more like a severe dificulty to speak- liek someone learning to speak afte a stroke, if youve ever seen that... its very similar- slurred, laboured, fumbling for words, slow.
im a real gabbler normally.
weirdly, im definatly an extrovert aspie..

I used to get that all the time, losing the ability to speak. When I would speak, the words that were coming out of my mouth were total gibberish. Not real words at all. Or my speech would be all disorganized like this, "You know the cow in now the who what lie in the fly bow some it nothing computer crash car boom." Just random words would come out. It happened all the time and not just under stress even though it would make it worse. Now since I am on medication, it rarely happens. I have a few disorganized posts on this site but that was months ago.

actually, the Missus (who's as NT as you can get), has a vocabulary problem. I'll be sitting there, waiting for a noun or pronoun to give meaning to the sentance...;)

I've found that as I get older, speaking less is seen as wisdom, rather than the reverse.

Better to keep silent, and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt! - Mark Twain
