Things like having bad atention span and executive dysfunction could alos be part of ASDs I think. And most of the aspies that go my school are very disorganised and have to get chased around by teachers to help them plan things (including me)

I agree with this 100% I believe this to be the reason I was diagnosed with ADHD to begin with.

Right, so calling someone a hypocrite is fine, but dumb is immature and disrespectful. Who's the hypocrite now?

It is when it is factually correct. To just deny the existence of AD(H)D when one suspects to have AS is hypocritical. Besides there's a difference between calling an opinion hypocritical and calling what others do dumb as there is a difference between the words 'hypocritical' and 'dumb'.

Right, so I take it that you can prove ADHD is real then? No? I didnt think so. Now open a nice can of stfu.

Well, let's see...

ADHD brains look different on PET scans, on or off meds
People with ADHD do worse on quantitative tests of attention
When someone with ADHD takes medication and it works, his brain scan goes closer to normal and his test results go closer to normal. This is all significantly different from what happens on placebo.

ADHD may be over-diagnosed, or it may just be very common.
It may be treated the wrong way--over-medicating, or neglecting to teach organization skills.
But it definitely exists. As definitely as science can prove anything, anyway.

And again I ask you to refrain from insulting me by figuratively trying to muzzle me by telling me to 'shut the f**k up'.

Now if you're quite finished being disrespectful, I would be very interested that this topic continues and would also be interested in further participation by reading and probably responding to new posts of other people who may have AD(H)D or are just curious about it or trying to figure out whether they have traits of this disorder.

Do you have a link to an article published in a medical journal or based on a credible scientific study? If so, I would very much like to read it.

You've got the quotes mixed up. But anyways. Yeah... now they keep their students under control by convincing the parents that they should put their kids on amphetamines. What an awesome world we live in :P

The quotes shouldn't be mixed up anymore.
[see last edit]

Thank you for informing me: that was a genuine "slip of the keyboard" (I was in a rush today).
It won't happen again. Very sorry for the confusion.

After looking back on my childhood,
I now realise that if I almost certainly would have been put on some kind of stimulant medication if I was a small child today.
I found the crowded group orientated/lessons very boring, socially confusing and hard to follow.
Thankfully, I've improved a lot since then.

Also, if some of my boisterous friends and family were children today, they'd have been drugged up too.
They are nice people and they have a very active style of learning.
They aren't "bad" as such, just get bored very easily.

That's something to think about anyway.
Drugs are a form of social control without corporal punishment.
Quite frightening really.
Yes amphetamines a.k.a. "Speed".

I short, I think ADHD traits have always existed, but others may have just dismissed them as "bad behaviour" before.
I our current culture of high expectations, information deluge and "mechanised learning", these traits are just more visible/exacerbated.

All of a sudden, a brisk cross-country run in the fresh air seems strangely more appealing...

Or coffee...

"And I think to myself...
What a wonderful world..."

Yeah, some are worse then others, but I still think the idea of prescribing most of those medications to children(or adults for that matter) is absolutely horrible. Adderall is perticularly bad, being a combination of 4 different amphetamines, and in some cases doctors will even prescribe Desoxyn which literally is Methamphetamine(imo one of the most destructive drugs around). And don't even get me started on ritalin(methylphenidate, another amphetamine).
Regardless of my opinion on whether ADD is real, I think giving these drugs to children is one of the worst decisions being made in this country today(USA, I dunno how other countries deal with this). Anyone who disagrees only has to look at the number of people in this forum alone who claim that ADD medication has ruined their lives.

Gosh. There's even an ADHD song now so you can remember all the "symptoms". It's sung by a physician and his ventriloquist dummy.

I'm not promoting this site, I just thought that I'd share this because the song was quite amusing and a little disturbing too.

Oh and it's quite "catchy".

Whatever next?

All together children...

The ADHD Song:

Quote:
There’s three main symptoms in ADHD:
The first one is getting bored easily.
Hyperactivity is number two,
so loaded with energy that you don’t know what to do!
When you act without thinking, that’s impulsivity,
which is the very final part of ADHD.

Uhh... actually, I took 10 mg of Ritalin a little bit ago and managed to sit down and study and got 100% on a test; usually it's hit-or-miss whether I'll be able to force myself to study... I dunno if that's a placebo effect, because Ritalin at 20 mg never worked for me before, but if the dose was too high in the first place, this one might've helped... I'm thinking about going to talk it over with a psychiatrist once the quarter ends (I'm not starting meds mid-quarter; that's too much change and I have a feeling you have to learn to use whatever focus Ritalin gives you). Not having to mess with caffeine dependency sounds like a good trade to me, if it turns out it works.

Unfortunately I haven't got a direct link to the studies I'm talking about; I read them in print or via the library's online journal service at my school library and I am guessing they are pay-to-read online.

However, I did a bit of Googling and found this page:
http://newideas.net/adhd/research/struc ... ology-adhd

At the bottom are links to abstracts that discuss the structure of the brain and ADHD. If you have access to journals online, you should be able to search for the articles by name and author and read those studies yourself.
