the description quoted earlier in this thread by dussel shows they understand very little of what AS is. while some people may have "little emotional response" others may have extreme emotional responses, but to the wrong thing or expressed in the wrong way.

the solution they are offering is "teach them about emotions" but they seem to be unaware that many (not all) AS people actually do know plenty "about emotions" and that is not the point.

"teach them about their partner's loyalty" - this is AS we are talking about here. special interests, accumulation of huge amounts of specialised knowledge. it is not a general lack of knowledge that is the problem here.

this is one place where the quotation indicates a deep-set confusion on the part of FAAAS about what AS actually is.

i agree that the issues about being gay or not should be kept to another thread - so should criticism of someone's signature (probably best to take it to PMs)

Duessel was responding to a question by Dave, it was not his selection but Daves question.

Semi-Off-Topic: I do not think that a gay relationship works in this respect that different from a heterosexual one. At the end it about finding a way of living of two different persons with different personalities together, to find on a day-by-day basis a common ground.

Liresse, this is very well said. the issue is one of extremes for us. an either/or with scant middle ground.
even here o WP i get tired of the usual assumptrion that "aspies" are geek, quiet and wtihdrawn etc and emotionless.


The bold type i have used, epitomises my fairly tenuous relationships with people. It typifies my relationship with anyone i allow into my life. this is the issue that comes up - along with a few other things. i am probably a text book case with a bit of self-dx'ed sociopathy thrown in - or some such thing ( )

and most people assume i cannot be AS because i do not have flat affect and i have weird emotional responses to things, usually off the scale and quite incormpehensible to others.

my homed solution is to retreat from the world and keep things primarily virtual.

i think she is making fairly sweeping judgments that do not really help anyone.

I don't know why any of us bother answering Daves threads as he seems to be kind of a one shot wonder and then he vanishes for a few days after he gets some material for his paper or test.

Why does it matter? A thread is a thread.

I guess if you enjoy posting the same stuff over and over again to people who don't participate in their own thread.

I don't particularly care who starts a thread, just so it contains interesting discussion. But then, that's my social style--I don't really connect with the people; I just pick the interesting facts out of their brains for my collection. Doesn't stop me from having empathy, actually; when I see somebody hurting I feel like the world's gone wrong and I need to fix it... so yeah, there's another stereotype gone: You can be socially aloof, but that won't mean you don't care about people, just that you don't really like to spend time with anyone who doesn't have interesting facts.

I'm also emotionally overexpressive. I cannot hide anything I'm feeling and I have the emotional inhibition of a six year old. I'm a horrible liar and it's obvious if I despise you or love you. The only way I know to manipulate somebody is to make a logical case for what I want them to do and let them decide, and if I thought it didn't make sense to ask them, it'd be obvious I thought that. I'd pull my mom out of a burning building in a heartbeat, but I'd do the same for a perfect stranger. I don't care if I embarrass myself but I'll hate myself for days if I embarrass someone else. I have an extremely idealistic moral code, but it's abstract enough to change my actions in even slightly different situations. I've even studied psychology and sociology to try to understand people who don't behave logically.

I gather that is very different from what FAAS might expect. Ooh, did you hear that stereotype shattering?
