I think in pictures, but have face blindness. I can remember buildings interior and exterior really well but can't remember what the person I talked to all night in said building looked like. For example: I can see the outside of Annandale Hotel. Now I can see the bar and the merch table. The stage is as clear as day and so is the lighting that was used. I met a photographer there and can't remember his face. I can remember what his camera looked like though. I can't even remember the good looking guitarist or the singer, despite having a photo of him on my wall. I remember what they were wearing. I was only there 3-4 days ago. I can also remember what the Jack Daniels Lounge and back room look like, even though I've been there once over 3 years ago.
Wow....that is my experience precisely.
- Except no recollection of even what someone was wearing....!
.
If I didn't take photos I would only remember what the good looking ones were wearing.

This is bizarre but I also have face blindness. Does anyone else get it even with friends and/or people you see often? I can see people and talk to them yet when I get home I can't picture their faces at all. I've had this for years and never connected it to the AS.
I don't think in pictures...I have a constant "wah wah wah" of thoughts, it's usually just some sort of narration or discussion. When I consciously try to think, I have to make hand movements (unrelated to what I'm actually thinking about), and the thoughts just flow in a mix of words and pictures. My visual perception strips most things down into polygons, I see buildings and unorganic objects in polygons, but I haven't developed that skill to allow me to see complex curves in poly's I also have the ability to mentally map any building I walk through, including debris and litter. I do remember pictures for life, I have pictoral memories from as far back as 13 months old I'm extremely face blind as well, I mistook a brother of friend for another guys for SIX YEARS, and the other guy was missing an ear
I would not describe myself as thinking in pictures, although I am not entirely clear I know what this actually means. I use a lot of English language "thinking".
With regards to faces and other objects, visual information about faces is not processed by humans, in the same way visual information about other objects are processed. Problems can arise for instance because the face recognition specific processes fail, or because the brain fails to differentiate and processes facial visual information as though they were objects, and in both instances object recognition would be unaffected, nor would either instance be overcome by strong visual recall.
Research has indicated that autistic people may be better at recognizing faces on the basis of a single detail compared to non-autistic people, and conversely much poorer at recognizing faces on the basis of the whole face. This is consistent with reports of strengths in local/detail/mono processing, and weakness in global/generalizing/multi processing. Even if our facial recognition brain processes are not directly impaired, our other cognitive processes might be significantly impaired in making use of the end result.
I do not think in pictures and can only bring up images with effort and these are vague. My daughter never sees pictures in her head but she does has photographic memory only for a few seconds after the objec has gone. For instance I can hold up a notecard with a phrase on it for just a split second and she can read it after she no longer sees it and could not possibly had time to read it while it was visable. After a few seconds the image is gone forever. She uses words in her head to describe peoples faces or places to remember.

I think in pictures, but struggle with remembering faces. Normally I make a mental note to myself that someone has a certain hairstyle, eyes, nose, spot on chin etc, as that helps jog my memory.
