Probably AS. I did not vote since i will get to know for sure on Wednesday next week.

Yes, i have some special interests that i just love and know lots about. Computers, Gaming and Airplanes (FSX is a great combination!) I have had some other interests earlier in life, i used to love to ride my bike alot (that was before i got my first computer)

I may take on temporary interests too, sometimes i dive into a subject and examine: "How can this be made into a computergame" and i dig down into the subject, it is a great way to learn a subject.

Example: Last night with the swineflue on the news and being a "House MD" fan, i wondered if it would be possible to make that into a game: i took a dive into immunology and read about contagious diseases, how they manifested themselves, how they were diagnoses and so on. I have played a game that was called "Life and death" where you were a doctor and a surgeon and had to X-ray patients for kidneystones and so on, but it felt pretty limited and i was only interested in the diagnosis part...

Unfortunately, i have never sat down and written any game so far, mostly because lots of similar games already exists.

I put other disorder, special interest and parts of objects, because I'm dxed with something else, but I have strong special interests, and had the parts of objects thing in the past.

I put classical autism + special interests + interests in parts of objects.

voted AS + preoccupation with parts of objects... I have interests but they're no where near as obsessive as some I've heard about on here.. I tend to obsess more over objects and ideas intensely but not for long periods of time.

I certainly have had my fair share of interests over the years but I still believe I've never had an obsessed interest that lasted forever. I've gone from one interest to another. I would have a big interest on something for a few years and then move on to something else.

I have diagnosed AS, and the special interests are my most prevalent symptoms. I have had many special interests throughout the years, but only a handful of them (like I Love Lucy) have been "textbook Aspie," where all I do is think and talk about them. When I start a new interest, it comes on very quickly and very intensely. The more intense it is at the start, the more intense the interest will always be. I recently have developed a new special interest, the YouTube series "Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?" It's practically all I think about. The only thing that I think about more is another special interest of mine.

Yep to both:

-the narrow interest where I collect facts and read up on it and watch stuff in relation to it
-parts of objects in that I listen to, watch and read portions of things over and over again (as a child is was the same, but I had the usual opening and closing car doors on my toys and stuff)

I know that I have special interests but I am not able to judge if I have a special interest in the parts of objects. I think I do not have the ability to make that judgement about myself, I have some interest in parts of objects but I do not know if it is just a normal level of interest in the parts of objects or if it higher than the norm.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I put PDD NOS as I'm not diagnosed, although to most intents and purposes I do think I have AS.

I've always has special interests - as a child it was birds, then certain Tv shows. Up until a few years ago it was the X Files - it was all I thought about, constantly. Now it is astronomy and autism (good combination I reckon!)

I have AS, have special interests and a preoccupation with certain parts of objects.

Is preoccupation of certain parts like preferring to look or play with one part of an object, like spinning a cars wheel?

There seems to be no option for people who have neither a special interest nor a preoccupation with parts.

That goes under problems with imaginary play, actually, which isn't a part of AS (I made a mistake in my post). The wheel on a toy that is.

Parts of objects is being fixated on a button of your shirt for example, and paying a massive amount of attention to it. It's not really there in AS, but it can be.

have just voted on the one thing/special interest [hoping it is the same thing].

From how I understand it it describes how some autistic people are in some sense 'fascinated' (can't describe it any better) by for example closing and opening doors, switching the light on and off, pushing the buttons of a stereo just for the sake of pushing them (with and without meaning to turn on music), closing and opening windows. I know kids who open and close windows forever if you let them even.

Yes, sorry, I was just interested in those two things. Though it should be interesting to make a poll concerning that too., to see who meets which criteria in the section about repetitive behaviour and everything.

I was fixated on hate groups, Nazis, and nationalist movements as a child. This is why I can quote Hitler as well as the Nation of Islam. I am not proud of this at all, and now despise all forms of bigotry. I'm currently into:
--- recording artists, composers, tax law, religious studies, criminal law, surfactants, the pro-cure movement.
