I aslo have never been in a place that doesn't give back my change. Saying that I usually pay by credit/debit card as its much easier than messing about with change.
Paying with credit cards helps, but in that particular convenience store they didn't scan barcodes, they just punched in the price on the register... and the guy put $2 instead of $1.99. I politely told him that it was 1.99 and he gave me some serious attitude and gave me 2 cents instead... I just took one penny and left the other penny behind, but it was that incident that prompted me to ask this question on this forum. He wanted to make me feel like a cheapskate, and I was wondering if there are better strategies to deal with similar situations without being rude. It's not the first time that happens to me and it gets me every time.
