Pardon me for being an anus, but I find the whole concept of revolving Autistic Pride Day where autistics make a spectacle of one's self in these festivals by building a mountain made out of lego or showing off their other savant skills, for example, stomach churning because we're acting like clowns for the "norms" personal amusement, and I ain't society's b***h.

Of course their would'nt be no narrow demograhies of all aspergers that are either honest or not silly!

This is simply my opinion/feeling that I stand by. I think aspies are honest compared to the general population, but obiviously you think otherwise. Let leave it like that.

Derail is a verb which means that you are off track on someting as in, "I'm derailing because I'm completely going off topic by explaining the definition of derail because people are too lazy or preoccupied to use dictionary.com sometime."

No need to beg forgiveness for being an anus. Every community has members that serve to ferform certain functions. Like the anus of this community, you too are needed.

Just put on your orange wrist band and hushup. Do you have to put on a spectacle in order to show pride? or have pride?
Is there some unwritten rulebook that these things must occur, or you aren't really proud.

Its about being counted. (not in the closet)
its about public acknowledgement (force them to accet you)
Its about rights under the law (afforded to any other discriminated against minority)
Its about being an example (so others can aspire to be)
Its about the next generation (si it won't be so difficult on them)
Its about yourself (your future is not predetermined by your symptoms)


although you do raise some good points, underneath your smart assed reply.

There are some very talented Atrists, you can have a simultaneous ART EXHIBIT in every major City in the world.
There are musical Savants. The used to have the "US Festival" how about an "AS Festival"

Here is the reason. When you start to make some noise it gives courage to those who are hiding. It provides awareness, so others who have not even heard about it can find answers to the questions they never knew. Guaranteed, if it becomes an "en Vogue" thing, many famous thespians will say they are and then the parades will come. They are all publicity whores. Even if they aren't they will say they are to join the cause of the month.

These are some of the reasons for pride.

having a day where people can see you and acknolowdge your differences is important.

you generally can not tell an autustic person from a non autistic person by glancing at them. I can tell if you are black, white, or asian, or whatever or male or female by outward appearance in 99% of the cases. I cant tell if a person is a homosexual unless they tell me either by verbally or with some sort of "pride" emblem. Being educated, I can spot the signs of a person that is "aspie" like, but the uneducated? Arent they the ones we are trying to educate?!
Being an aspie is hard, make no mistake. Its not a road I think I would have choosen to travel had the choice been mine. However, I am what I am, and getting people to better understand who and what aspies are is the first step in really accepting. Again that first step is not always easy, but why should I have to fee compelled to hide who and what I am?

I don't get this. I celebrate being autistic by living every day of my life, and yet I don't feel the need to have some politically-correct day where I wear some stupid ribbon, eat cotton candy and showing off my savant skills by walking on stilts and wearing a red nose, because that's the kind of crap cliques seem to adhere -- the need to feel special and unique -- and being autistic doesn't make be special, just who I am, and I am content with just that.

And I only create awareness only to the people that want to get to know me better, not the a**holes who think I am stupid because it's a waste of time trying to get people to understand when they simply do not like you for being you, so I don't feel the need to ram it down their throats, thanks. There are also facilites, conferences, online forums that do a better job in creating awareness than some stupid day, which is celebrating something regarded as "diverse" that I don't really see the big deal why it must be celebrated for.

From my experience, you can tell a million people about Autism and Asperger's and they still wont get it.

I'm not one who hides my condition from people. But sometimes it is pointless to even let people know when every response I get from them is a "huh" or a "what".

This I can relate to tremendously. It's really tough for me. I'm an undiagianosed aspie and i'm really afraid and not sure what my family will think once I've told them I have this condition. I'm heistant. But I've been myself throughout my life and still no one can't see my quirky and weird differences I have in terms of socialisation and every aspects of it.

Just hold on toonaspie i'm right beside you.

Ok, I got to thinking about this again, and I cant understand why you wouldnt want others to know and understandyour condition better. Wouldnt that lend itself to better relations all the way around?

I don't see anything wrong with it really. Most of them aren't laughing at us... and at least we get to celebrate ourselves. NTs have yet to have a holiday named 'NT Day' or something. Oh well.

Nts don't have a "day" because everyday is "their day."
Their surrounded by each other every second and every where they go.
