i do this too. or i turn it on and watch a scene again if i have missed some of the dialogue.
i sometimes have trouble making sense of something someone has said in real life, and ask them to repeat, only to hear the exact same indecipherable thing i "heard" the first time.
i always think of the Monty Python police station silly voices skit:
