I can read animals just fine. Especially my own pets, of course. I could read them and predict them in ways others couldn't and I noticed lots of little ways about them.
I have met dog owners who just doesn't have a clue about dog language. (And they don't take kindly to hints!)
Another thing I've noticed: I have some degree of prosopagnosia, and the more alike people are in height and colour the easier I make mistakes. However I have had no problems telling my pets apart who were the same species though not even my animal loving parents could tell them apart by their faces alone. I also notice this with other animals I know.
