It is just that some of the symptoms are similar....
I developed some traits...like chronic self-comforting..that could be either/or...
When i say I don't think I have it anymore...i don't mean that that I am not still somehow affected....
I still have flashbacks...it won't ever be wiped from my history...But I like to think that I have done some sort of work on myself over time so that it does not have to mark every part of my life until I die. I don't have insomnia from it..I no longer have most of the neurotic habits and phobias that seemed to stem from it...that did a number on me when I was a kid.
I'd like to think that there is a lot more to my life than some messed up stuff that happened to me when I was very young that wasn't my fault...at least I'd like to hope so....
I am a 34 year-old person...I have my difficulties, but I am not the dark, messed up emotionally disturbed basketcase that i was during the years after the various events that might have caused me to develop the PTSD....I also consider the fact that no matter what I have gone through...even though it is all subjective...there are infinite scenarios that could be worse....so I have tried to find ways of getting past it and getting on with my life.
I also happen to be in the annoying loop of frequently questioning my relation to the spectrum just because i have an assessment and not an actual diagnosis...even though i should know better by now.
Also, consider that I have sort of known about the way I was affected by the bullying and abuse long before I had ever heard of such a thing as the autistic spectrum....so that also affects my perception of things.

I was bullied non-stop at school. Primary school I was just called names, ditched by my only 'friend' and teased. No biggie really. In Middle school, I was still called names, picked on by a teacher because I was too slow dressing myself after swimming (dyspraxia), a group of girls called me a lesbian because me and my friend always held hands, they told the same friend not to touch me because I had warts on my fingers, spread a rumour around the school that I lived on a farm and my family were too poor to buy a hair brush (In reality we were poor but I wouldn't let a brush near my hair). They laughed becuase of my non-designer label trousers as well. High school was worse though. It was a Catholic school (seems to be a pattern in these things) and I got hit over the head, called a r****d, kicked under the desks, pushed out of lines (always resulting in me being told off for getting out of line), slapped, more serious name calling, someone tried to pour acid down my front in science (everyone was laughing), a teacher told me I was 'too short' to be a year 11 (cue laughter), in another science lesson, I was set on fire, a teacher made it his life's mission to bully, intimidate and harass me and eventually I had enough and left.
But it didn't end there. After leaving hell, the teacher continued to ring me up on the phone threatening to call the police and get my mum arrested for my school refusal. He called me a 'silly little brat' and shouted down the phone at me after making sure my mum was not in the room. Eventually, when I was alone, I pulled the chord out the wall.
I was also bullied viciously on the estate where I lived, just because I was an 'outsider'. In the 7 years I lived there I was name called, had stuff thrown at my house, had my scooter stolen (toy scooter, not moped!), got pushed over and kicked, got knocked off my bike, was sexually assulted in broad daylight (trust me, no one will help you), and pushed off a moving bus by a yob. Yeah. A lot of s**t.
Now I suffer severe PTSD and have regular nightmares. I suffered from depression for 4 years, tried to commit suicide about 8 times and ended up in a psychiatric hospital where... guess what... the staff bullied me.

I'm horrified just reading that. Man, this is a screwed up planet. We need a new one. This is the wrong one.
I need to hear the end of this one now. What happened then? Are you still in the psychiatric hospital? Are you doing okay?

15 and diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome
I'm not sure.
When I was little I was called 'gross girl' all the time for some reason. And in fourth grade I remember the fifth graders drove me to tears almost everyday. They also pushed me down the stone stairs and then laughed at me. I'm lucky that I didn't break my nose. I had two great friends in fifth grade, but in sixth grade I was separated from one of them and the other one treated me like crap everyday so she could get in with the popular kids. I was too loyal/trusting/naive to understand what she was doing until I was in seventh grade and this huge whale of an older girl made fun of me in front of a bunch of people by asking me if I had autism or something (That was half a year before I was even suspected to have Asperger's). The girl I thought was my friend not only said nothing to defend me, but she pulled me aside and scolded me! I stopped being friends with her after that. After that I threw up walls and recoiled into a lonely ball of pain and hate. I acted REALLY weird, but no one bullied me because by that time I had become quite adept at beating the stuffing out of anyone who dared tease me.
Also, teachers have treated me horribly basically my whole life. One even dared to tell my mom that she 'taught English not special ed'. And one treated me like a little kid, despite my frequent insistence (and proof) that I was actually one of the smartest ones in class. I could go on and on. I've been treated as a scape goat, yelled at, the principal forced me into a meltdown in order to punish me, etc. etc. It just makes me really appreciate nice teachers who aren't prejudiced against me.
My life's been going pretty nicely since I entered high school. I still have my reputation of being dangerous to protect me and I've become more open with people. Even if it is tiring and difficult. ![]()

I'm glad you took your son out of public school as well if he's an aspie, Anastasia. And please, please, make sure he never goes into the military. It is awful for many people but there are degrees of awful that I can barely explain for being an aspie in the military.
Well, you are probably correct that physical abuse is less for women, Wigglyspider. But sexual abuse is also higher for you ladies. It makes me want to get extremely homicidal on some abusers just thinking about that. So if you were able to keep to yourself and avoid both, then I am very happy for you.

Good to hear Anastasia, I am as well. You won't catch me beating those drums or letting loose the dogs. Even if I didn't have all these nightmares, I still would be a complete pacifist. As I said earlier in this thread, I never could even fight back when I was going through school. So I am glad that even one more person calls for peace and prevents their son from being in direct harm.
It reminds me of this famous quote, I can't remember where I read it though. But here it goes.
"My father wanted me to die for country. My mother wanted me to die for faith. Who was there that wanted me to live?"

You would not believe the amount of flak I get from nearly everyone for taking him out of school. I've had all the excuses and reasons why he should be there. Even if he was beaten up everyday peeps still think he should go to school no matter what.
Such a weird and funny world we live in. If somebody is in an abusive relationship all they ever get told is "leave, leave, leave" and rightly so. But if a kid is being tortured everyday in school the consensus is to "stay, stay, stay,"..like I said its a very strange world this.
I was clearly bullied by 2-4 people at a time (depended on which school i was at)
others just did the whole talk about me behind my back thing.

I was called a ret*d and a nerd. None of the popular kids wanted anything to do with me. Girls with teased up bangs would say, "Oh, wow...you have your hair down." My hiar wasn't much different than it is, now. I've had boys from my regular classes ask me if I've been stroking myself, lately. I was given flack for saying that I was a Beatles fan. It was horrible.
That was 1989/1990 when that all happened.

During the 1970's I was bullied a lot and especially after 1977. I was often bullied nearly every day and outside school as well at worse I could have been bullied for almost 24 hours a day. Because of the Aspiphobia I endured at school I will not talk to strangers and have not done so since I was 16. I was even bullied by a teacher when I was in my 4th year at secondary school. That to me is a lot and also having to put up with an aspiphobic family to boot as well did not help matters.![]()
I was bullied the most in primary school. In secondary school I was just a weirdo ![]()

I was fortunate that I wasn't bullied as much as some of you. I got it moderately in elementary public school. Not at all in private middle school. However in a private Christian high school I was bullied constantly by the nephew of the Gaither Christian music group. They make good music, that's a fact, but that's what they do for a living, so its understandable that they would be good at it. However, judging from my experience with the nephew, I doubt they are very decent people. Fortunately, the bully moved back to Alabama after the 9th grade, but unfortunately, he had already established my reputation for being a bullied guy. I didn't have too much trouble with bullies after he left though. There were no bully issues in college.
PS- I almost forgot. I became a second career nurse and believe it or not, there are a LOT of nurse bullies out there. A LOT. I no longer work as a nurse because of it.
