I've been really stressed out lately about how my conversations have been going. I've been having people say things(at work and school) that I think are mean, but other people treat them as if it is a joke and not something I should be upset about. I usually don't say anything, because I don't know what I should say or if I should say anything at all. I've been driving myself crazy wondering if what they are saying is something I should be offended by or if they are just joking. Also, today at work, I was having lunch with coworkers and they were all talking about experiences they'd had and were all laughing, but I couldn't understand why what they said was funny and I kind of smiled a little so I wouldn't look too strange, but I think I did look strange anyway. ARGHHHH! :( It's maddening.

I think all my years of analysis have lead me to the following 2 options:

Option 1 - Don't join in and look like a moody grumpy miserable selfish killjoy.

Option 2 - Join in and make an idiot of yourself

Anyone have an option 3?

Yes I do that often, if I think I may have said something rude, weird or hairsplitting.
