The thing to remember is that this test is used to determine if a person is NOT autistic. A score above doesn't indicate AS, it just suggests that it's likely, and further testing may be necessary. A score below the certain threshold will indicate that a person does not have AS, and can be ruled out. A subtle, yet important distinction.
I think some of the questions can be a bit confusing to someone who has a very literal interpretation of the wording, and may influence the score a bit. Overall, it's a pretty respected test though. I scored a 41 the first time I took it, and I doubted myself, so I did it again, and if there was any doubt as to an answer, I answered the way that is least associated with AS tenmdencies. I got a 38. Oh well...
I think the fact that I had to really sit and wonder about some basic 'about me' questions is a pretty good indicator all on its own. I was thinking of different ways it could be meant. I also have no real drive to seek out other people and keep the same friends so answering questions on social skills was confusing. Ultimately I chose to base them on how it felt the last time I really tried to 'fit in' with people I didn't know.
Nothing beats the full evaluation, though. It was nice to see both the numbers and the interpretations by an expert. I scored forty, but that was mostly used to show a consistent pattern in the rest of the data and not taken on its own.
