Family parties: can't avoid them.

Others: I used to try to do this, but stopped when I realize that I wasn't fooling myself, and certainly not convincing anyone else that I'm having a good time. Then I asked the question... why do this? So I stopped. Probably after that time when I got really plastered and someone had to drive me home way before the party was over.

At family parties I do stupid things too, like starting sparring matches with my uncle and cousins. They're used to it, but other people's reactions, let's just say, vary.

I get both overwhelmed by all the crosstalk, and incredibly bored at the same time.

I've thought about this as well, but I doubt I will actually throw one in my young adult years. I probably wouldn't throw one unless I lived with someone and we had it together. I did have some birthday parties when I was a kid, I think the last one I had was when I turned 11 years old. They were small, with close friends...I often shared them with a girl who had a birthday a day before my birthday.

It would have ended in fight if I ever attended some party where alcohol is servered. Drunks seem to be attracted to me for some reason and I do not mean in a good way. My friends took me to two roleplaying game conventions each time I felt uneasy, uncomfortable, and out of my element. I have turned down other offers of attending other game conventions. They keep asking me if they did something to make it weird for me which they did not. The time I spent with them was fun.

Been to my fair share in college, and some nowadays. I'd just put on a gaming or 80s T-Shirts and I instantly had a conversation piece. Then usually I'd wind up sitting in an empty bedroom with three or four other people just chilling and having a quiet conversation.

Hehe yeah they read my attitude or something, too. Once a drunk (who weighted about 180% my weight) started walking around armwrestling people (standing) to show how that he's "still a man".

Since his forearm was thicker than my leg, I stood no chance of competing directly. So I pretended that I was gonna play, and in the first second I put all my power into it, so that he would put even more power back, and then I reversed position and channeled his power forward while tugging on his opposite shoulder. He started to fall on me so I restored his balance.

I never have either. Don't think I will. I don't like people touching my stuff. If I ever have a house of my own I don't want people gawking and commenting on my things. I hate it when people go into my bedroom and start touching my things.

A party party? Sure. Many times. I don't usually enjoy them though.

Hey, I'm 28 and I've never thrown a party. I'm too scared it won't be much fun. That's probably a common fear though. When I get my own place, I will.

I've never been to a party — seems like a waste of time. I'm certain I'll never attend one. :)

I am 41. I have never done it. I don't know why. I never have enough friends to fill a bathroom. LOL. But still, just the thought that you could ask people to come to something because they like you and show up. I have done this tons of times for other people. Mostly people in recovery which were like dinner parties. I have done that a bunch. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to feel like people liked me that much. I have one friend I am pretty sure would show up, my first ex. That's about it. Honestly I don't think it is going to happen. I would just like to have a birthday party with friends once.

Back when I was really, really something-beyond-just-passive, a "friend" (someone with an agenda who pretended to be a friend, and back then I didn't know what real friends were like) dragged me to two parties. One of them was a group of live action roleplayers, another a group of goths. Okay both of them were mostly goths.

The first one, as soon as I walked in the room, every single person there turned to stare at me. Then most of them laughed. At me not with me. I spent the entire time bouncing around the room, not talking much, bored out of my skull. The people there were largely what I came to call highlighted people -- people who stand out due to the use of something like a psychological form of glamour (as in fairy mythology), and who are very manipulative, game-playing, often outright predatory people who think it's fun and amusing to futz around with power in all kinds of highly unethical ways. Of course so was the guy who took me so birds of a feather. Such people saw me as an amusing sort of target due to a perception of extreme vulnerability. Hence the immediate laughter within five seconds of clapping eyes on me. Needless to say it was extremely uncomfortable. I drifted around and watched people and barely took part in anything -- and every time I did take part, people just found me funny. There was also a weird dynamic with status games, where my presence there somehow improved my "friend's" status because it showed his powers of manipulation. And manipulation was prized by these people.

The second time was a smaller group of people meeting in a restaurant. Mostly highlighted again. By that time in my life I had made two real friends, and was very slightly less passive, and slightly more willing to trust my instincts. So now I had a basis of comparison. I went in and ended up wedged between my "friend" and another highlighted person. And... it's hard to describe what happened in there because while I have the ability to map people's movement patterns (especially, as on that night, when I am neither talking nor understanding language), it is harder for me to put words to it. The guy to my left had movements that expressed interests in owning me as if I was an object, with a slightly menacing predatory air to it. The "friend" on my right had movements with the same predatory air, but that somehow expressed, "No, she's mine". I didn't understand any of the actual conversation (although everyone's movements were all about trying to outdo and impress and manipulate each other, regardless of what words they used to do it), and ended up practically falling asleep with exhaustion.

After the second one I got rid of the "friend" permanently. That and some things he told me... when I told a real friend all I had experienced, she told me I would be safer if I decided to avoid him. I agreed. I already knew that deep down but had been well trained by abusers to do the equivalent of notice a train speeding towards me but decide maybe it wasn't really so bad and second guess my perceptions and completely fail to step out of the way. I mean... for instance someone calling himself a friend complained (as if this made him really unhappy) about the fact that I sometimes used a keyboard to communicate, because it somehow made him not want to hurt me. And he had a problem with the idea of not wanting to hurt me. I am glad I had someone helping me to grow a backbone (and giving me a basis for comparison) because... I was born really passive and subsequent experiences made me beyond that into ultra-passive. Such that someone could tell me "I will hurt you" and I would not get out of there. I think I was 14 the first one and 19 the second but I can't be sure. Both parties were mostly people over 18.

Wow it's been a long time since I've thought of these things. I am so glad that isn't my life anymore. I really knew a lot of creepy people and didn't have the sense or the ability to evade them until the few months following that second party, during which I got away from most of them for good. You couldn't pay me enough money to be a teen again. And I think those experiences have tainted my idea of parties. Sitting around watching people manipulate each other to score status points while having no clue what they're saying isn't my idea of fun.

I never let people in my house to avoid stuff like that. A lot of my friends don't know where I live.

I went to a really fun pirate party about a year and a half ago and had a great time! Basically, a dude at my mom's work was having a birthday and they all decided pirates was a cool theme. There were actually a bunch of different people (all ages) at the party. I ended up finding other teens/young adults and we all hung out together and had a blast. We even all snuck down to another house at one point and it was below zero outside! lol But yeah, we had a ton of fun hanging out, watching movies, palying Guitar Hero, eating, and just having a good time. I actually caught up with one of the girls at the party last fall at my mom's company picnic and she, me, and her friend all had a blast together there and at the bowling alley next door 8)

As for other parties, I've been to quite a few and I don't think I've ever not had fun at one. I love parties ^^

Two actually, one by choice, the other not. The first one was a company party which just happened to coincide with my 2nd shift position. I pretty much stayed back in my work area called "The cage" (A fenced in area where all the goodies were kept.) and pretended to do work. I could tell my boss was confused with my behavior and attempted to usher me out to go socialize. I'd just stand there watching 2 or 3 people talk about nothing for a while before I found another place to pretend to occupy my self with something.

Another time my best friend at the time called me up 10 something PM on New Years Eve and invited me to a party. I thought it was going to be small with people I mostly new. Yeah, not so much. I said hi to the one person I did know, hung around awkwardly for a few minutes, went out "for a smoke" and didn't come back.

Yes I went to a house party with people that I graduated with from high school. People said hi and asked a few questions, but I didnt really socialize with anyone. I just sat and watched people and it was kind of depressing. People also noticed that I was not smiling and a girl even jokingly yelled at me to 'be happy'. Oh and this other girl got really drunk and did not even know where she was and she fell on my lap. That was not an "Autism-friendly moment'. Also going to the party was really stressful, I was very scared and anxious. I think I would do it again though, due to the fact that for once in a very long time I didnt feel lonely after the party. But overall it was a 'psychiatric disaster' or something like that.
