Confirmation bias + Barnum effect + cold reading = psychic powers

Exactly. I in no way believe what we see is all there is to the universe, but psychic powers are just bogus IMO

taupey, and Hartzofspace re: the Death card, yes I think that that is true.. its just that if I get the card I get a chill down my spine because I dont know whether it is going to mean New Beginnings or Buy a Black Dress. A lot of people i know left this earth when I was in my 20s and I became very afraid of anything which looked like a bad omen. I am still afraid now.

Taupey, thanks, yes I do very much like the cards I have. I amalways on the look out for new decks... havent bought one in ages though.

The first deck I bought was the Osho one, when I was 18. I used that quite a lot in my early 20s. I got the Rider Waite deck as a present when I was 20.... I always seemed to get really crappy cards though, like the Nightmare card- 9 of Swords, it seemed to be always coming up in my spreads.

I now use the oracle ones, probably because they give me a more gentle reading. The more traditional decks seem to give me the truth in no uncertain terms, I havefound. Maybe one day when I stop being so damaged I will use them again.

The Tarot Reading you did for me was very accurate. I really like the 12 Card Astrological/Horoscope Spread you used too. Thanks Again! :)

I want to get off the 150 mgs of Lyrica then I would like to give you a Tarot Reading too, if that's alright with you Moog. :?:

Thanks Taupey. Glad you liked it :-) I like that one too, it's one of my favorites.

I would certainly love to receive a reading from you sometime... it seems you have tons more experience than I do!

I'm always learning, I'll be a student of Tarot for life. :)

I'm sorry to read about your father, HartzOfSpace. It's difficult making peace especially when someone is dying. That would be a big difference from the Northeast to Florida. I have made two sudden decisions like that and move across the country, from Virginia to Arizona and then from Arizona to Virginia. Sometimes moving to different states are like moving to different countries. It's not just the climate that's different. :)

I still miss my father, but he has appeared in dreams, so it's like getting a visit here and there. :)
And, you're right about it feeling like a different country. I was born in New Jersey, lived in the Northeast all my life. People down here as soooo different! But most of it in a nice way. The only thing that I don't like, is that I find Southern friendliness way too intrusive. I am actually getting used to it. On days that I am feeling fragile, I just hibernate. 8)

You know, some of the Virginians are intrusive too. I have one neighbor who thinks it's alright to interupted whatever I am doing and barge right in. Her girlfriend (from New Mexico) keeps telling her to leave me alone. I have other neighbors who sit out on the apartment porches talking about whomever is not out there sitting with them. I would rather read a book. :)

I'm sorry to read that Zen Mistress. It's nothing less than traumatic to loose many people whom you loved and cared for in a very short time especially when you are young. It's understandable that the Death card or anything which might portend a bad omen would upset you after experiencing that. I hope things get better for you in time and you are able to use the Tarot again too.

I read tarot but have not been satisfied with any given deck recently, so I am making my own.

That sounds really cool. Could you share pics when you are done?

I wouldn't be without my Tarot decks.

There is a daily use deck and four other decks which come out on really special occasions.

Most readings are fairly accurate as going back over my notes a few months later has revealed.

One night I couldn't do the reading, so the person I read for asked again the next night, I got nearly all of the same cards turn up but for some reason I understood them on the second night. Weird.

Thank you. I may well use it again. it is 1000km away right now but next time I am at my parents house I will bring them back. I left 3 of my decks behind as I was trying to travel light..

Arminus, that sounds cool, ive sometimes thought of making my own deck too..

I agree many or even most psychics are frauds. (my teacher and her classes thou was genuine.. one of the others i used to go to psychic classes with.. ended up being a runner up in an Australia wide psychic competition.. :P that one was MUCH better than me.. very gifted in what she saw).

I was horrified and shocked on watching a famous psychic on tv one time (sorry ive now forgotten who it was.. John Edwards?????).. and he WAS faking it.
....

If you want to learn this stuff.. i recommend to find a good teacher! (your know if she's good or not as some in the class will be doing quite accurate readings). Most this stuff is taught in "closed circles". My teacher used to be able to boost the energy of the room.. so made it easier for her students to give readings. (I still dont know how she could raise the energy as high as that and so quickly).
