You make a good point: High-IQ numbers do not guarantee anything ... and maybe that is why some people continually mention theirs, as in, "How can somebody with an IQ like mine be failing so miserably?"

There is more than one way to make a cry for help, and that was my own question for a very long time.

**thinks to self: "No use of the word 'but' allowed here ..."**

Word usage can reveal things and inspire questions for the sake of clarity or knowledge. So ...

May I ask why you there chose the word "or" rather than the word "and"? Are you saying "academic achievements or 'academic success'" (in order to allow others to hear your thought either way), or is the additional matter of later "success in life" being included? I ask because I am a skeptic of "academic achievements or 'academic success'" ever really do nearly as much as some people expect.

True enough and good to know if we human beings ever actually have any real need to ever places values on ourselves or each other anyway.

How so?

Or, they might be trying to ask questions.

I agree it's unwise to strut around your IQ score, because a lot of people are insecure about their intellect, and see life in terms of one-up-manship, so if they think you're trying to one-up them (which is generally how stating your IQ is perceived) they can become hostile. Also, in general, it's considered socially inappropriate to talk about how intelligent one is (in the UK at least) and people who do this are often ostracised. So it's unwise in terms of getting people's backs up. The more people's backs you get up, they harder it is to proceed in life (unless you are able to be a total hermit, independent of others in any aspect) because people then put up barriers for you. I do find that the people who talk about how clever they are, or go round talking about their IQ score, are the more socially inept people who lack this overall understanding.

M. Binet, the inventor of the IQ test, specifically stated that they couldn't and shouldn't be used in the way that people try to use them. ^^

We try to make this world a better place, but with so much BS floating around, it's very difficult.

But you don't have to have an AS, to realise that, i guess, i think about it much more. I always think and read online about stuff and life and universe, just like you wrote. I just want to grasp the broadest spectrum of info as possible.

The psychometricians have tried to extrapolate all success in "one bundle" , but one in reality cannot delineate other existing factors in this mix, i.e. personality and ethics, etc.
This is where it becomes pseudoscience( in my opinion) when they assert I.Q. with "broad success".
The credible studies I have seen is where there is a positive correlation between 'high cognitive ability' and "academic achievement" and subsequently obtaining a higher paying job.

It would be an indicator of insecurity, and so doing alienates people. I've seen these types and I would prefer to be alone.

Ah yes, and I thank you for helping that "click" for me!
