Family practitioner or internist for diagnosis?
Wow... Again here I feel like I am on the "leading edge"... Another irony is that our annual review period fell right at the same time as I got my Dx. Our bosses have to pick 1-3 improvement areas. On mine is usually the following or some variation..
1. Sometimes does not see the big picture. (has trouble coming up from the details)
2. Does not socialize/network well for her role
3. Needs to better communicate (gets too literal)
(usually these are followed by examples of where I failed to understand someone or a situation that was obvious to everyone else)
When my boss and I looked at my improvement areas this time (1 and 2 were on there) he immediately sent my review back to HR to have those areas removed. Apparently having this on a review of a DX'd Aspergers person is like telling a physically disabled person they need to improve their walking skills.
On one hand it is sort of cool that I can no longer be "dinged" at work for these things but on the other hand it is weird to see the whole "disability" word being used with me.
One of my upcoming assignments is to write a guide for my company for Managers who have Aspergers employees. How to adapt...
