It's less about being impatient for an immediate response (though they are nice). It takes me so long to realize that communication went sour in a thread, and even when I do notice it, there is so little information as to why.

When you say something way out of line in a real world conversation, you get people staring back at you in a moment of awkward silence. It's a little uncomfortable, but you know there is a problem with something you said recently. The first person to stare at you or the first person others stare at after you, is likely the person that you offended most. What do I know about that person? does any of that relate to the topic of conversation? etc.

You start to gather evidence of what went wrong. It's like having a black box after a plane crash, there is some hope of understanding why things went wrong and how to prevent it in the future.

Sorry, I meant the "I always appreciate..." to be an additional point of my own after agreeing with what you said. I've been in some online places where people get upset because they took offense at something and then act like they're entitled to an instant yet considered response.

I've wondered about the "neurotypical"/"aspergers" ratios between different threads and different sub-forums. I've always wondered if some forums on Wrong Planet were more "NT" than others, and I've wondered if some threads with a high percentage of "Don't know if i have it" and "Neurotypical responders tended to suggest the OP started an "NT topic" (If such an OP starts many such topics, that suggests the OP is neurotypical. I was thinking about running such an analysis on my threads, but all the friggin' programming required makes it... just not worth it. However, I could easily do simple manual averaging and estimation without needing fully comprehensive calculations using a program.... hmmmm...)

This sounds pretty Aspie to me.

Fwiw, I don't really think that any forum is more NT than any other forum. Some people get things out of any given forum and some do not - my issue is that I get nothing out of the forum, and I do not know what others do get out of it, so I asked. It's not that getting anything out of it makes anyone more or less autistic, just that they assign a different value to what goes in any particular forum.

And considering the asperger/neurotypical respondent ratio to my post is currently 100% aspie, it must be!

Nahhhhh... Jeez people, stop confusing analytical / numerical thinking with aspie-ness.

For sure, there's variation in the motivations of people of all types and all types of psychologies, but I wouldn't doubt that there are trends in the differences in the motivations of NTs and Aspies that manifest in their various forms of communication (such as a forum).

I'm not confused. I am, however, engaged in a social ritual that people sometimes call "friendly teasing." You may have realized this and communicated it in some way in your response, but I can't tell.

Did someone say "friendly teasing?" ;)

Seriously never even saw this folder and would never look in it just due to the fact that I know it would never interest me to read other peoples' random thoughts... Sounds waaaaay too much like small talk to me. :D :D :D

I've been on many forums and most have a subforum like that one, so it wasn't really a surprise to me.

Didn't really think much of it until the popularity contest thread came up in wrongplanet.net discussion.

I hate the word "fora".

I won't say "A scissor", either.

Some things should be said the wrong way.

I'm also struggling with all the fact addicted 'where's your proof' kinda posters. I don't keep big detailed zipdrives full of everything I've ever read. I tend to rely on goggle to be my file system. I have no trouble digging up facts from something I read - when it's applicable and consistent with the conversation. I find that expressing an 'opinion' can be a sketchy thing. I'm of the mind that an opinion, by definition, doesn't require resources or annotated reference libraries. I'm very wary about getting into conversations that will need a research assistant just to participate no matter how interesting it may be.

LMAO.

This is all over the interwebz, UNFORTCH. I do see it here but from people with AS it annoys me less because I know that they are probably genuinely curious and not just needlessly argumentative d*ckbags who want to sound smart.

If someone says something that sounds sketchy to me or really interesting I'll research it myself, most of the time.
