I am in the third category. I think there's nothing wrong with me and there's nothing wrong with the world(as an aggregate). I am simply different. Not better. Not worse. Just different.

"The reason grass covers the World is because it bends to the wind."

Chinese proverb

"Assume a virtue if you have it not."

William Shakespeare

Was diagnosed late in life. Was always told that everything in the world was wrong with me. Being diagnosed showed that it wasnt "everything" that was wrong with me. It was just one thing that might be termed "wrong" with me. So it freed me from the blame game.

The whole World may be 'wrong", but thats the world you live in so you have to adapt to it to survive. You have to think of yourself as stranded on a planet of aliens (neurotypicals) and you have to "pass" and learn to play the games they play to survive in this world. Assessing blame because the world doesnt accomidate you is rather pointless. These aliens you live among are just as enslaved by their nature as you are.

Screw that chinese proverb. The reason the wind blows around the world is because the water and grass bends TO IT!

I think you're missing a fourth category. There are some things that are kind of wrong or at least maladaptive about me, and there are definitely some things that are wrong and maladaptive about the world. But I wouldn't say the fault lies with all one or the other. Actually, "wrong" is, as others have pointed out, a very subjective things. We are only considered "wrong" because we don't fit into the way that society works. But that doesn't mean that all of society is necessarily wrong either - it is a model that works very well for many people.

So what it all comes down to is what is "right" or "wrong" for you, I guess.

Seeing it as everyone else's problem is an elitist view that won't get you anywhere - but seeing it as all your fault is depressing and also won't get you anywhere. You need a combination.

I was thinking the same thing - I feel that both I and the world have considerable issues. Not much I can do about that, I just have to work around it the best I can.

I would also say I have been in the first and second group at different times of my life. I found both standpoints were exhausting and supremely unhelpful in the end.

How about "the world is hella messed up, and I'm part of that world"?

That's my view.

Hi all,

Just want to say thanks for all your interesting and thoughtful responses to my topic!

I wish I had time to respond to each one individually - unfortunately I don't - but I enjoyed reading all of your posts and hearing your wisdom.

Before I was diagnosed (for 44 years), I thought there was something wrong with me. After diagnoses, I believe we are all just different. Of course now I think that I am a little more special than the rest.
