My brain is never quiet. It seems like I've asked the question on here before about that. It sounds like thousands of crickets all going off at once. If I'm really stressed, I can also hear the blood rushing through my head, in addition to the usual noise.

I don't feel like I can just lay down, automatically, like the dogs do. I believe it takes conscious effort.

Yeah and moreso lately than before, I think what I need is just one night of actual restful sleep, I can't remember the last time I did.

My brain is never quiet, either, both in the "constant thoughts" sense and the "constant noise" sense (like a low-level hum).

I've had several hearing assessments recently and thought the hum was related to a problem with my ears...maybe not.

@EstherJ: thanks for the article. "Low signal-to-noise ratio" is exactly what the audiologist said regarding my hearing results. She didn't think it was a brain issue, BUT the next audiologist I saw (in conjunction with an ENT appointment) said it very well could be (something like CAPD).

Trying to figure out what to examine next...this has given me something else to consider. :)

Like a noise by the generating station, or idling freight train, with feeling of pressure. Something like the sound of the ocean in a seashell.

Still happens when sinuses are clear, earplugs are in, or hearing protection is on. Don't think it's tinnitus.
