I think that's going off at a tangent by bringing in suffering due to a Western lifestyle. That type of stuff is on a global scale and out of my hands, however I don't condone it.

I'm talking about individuals causing other individuals to suffer.

Yes I know, out of sight, out of mind

Generally speaking, I have no opinion at all about people.
I must see what a person does and says before I decide whether I like them or not.

Hey Nessa, you're referring to me :D (always happy when I see your posts :thumright: )

People are (predominantly unknowingly) simply taking part in the natural selection, which we call life.

Natural selection brings about some good things (cooperation is sometimes most beneficial to survival) and bad things (competition is sometimes most beneficial to survival).

All people have their specific way of participating in the natural selection. That's what we call personalities.

There's nothing more to it...life and people are simple (:

I relate to your posts about survival a lot

I'd always thought that I lacked the 'killer instinct' and that this was what essentially differentiated me from the average person

I have more of it now (probably due mainly to taking SSRI and SNRI type anti-depressants) but it doesn't come naturally - it
had been more from necessity with having to live in a predominantly NT society

There's still a cause and effect thing going on no matter how long the chain is
ie if a person buys a mobile phone or eats meat they are still indirectly responsible for suffering

Which as I said is global, and I can do nothing about. However, if you want to go off on that unrelated tangent, I use environmentally friendly cleaning products and bathroom products and even some make-up products, and I was a vegetarian for a very long time, plus I recycle and I used washable nappies for both my children. I have also studied the environment in a science course, with a view to one day getting a job in environmental awareness of some sort. I think I can say I haven't been totally ignorant or selfish on the matter. Now I realise, you were being sarcastic  . Without knowing someone, or anything about them or how they try to contribute to the protecting environment an unwise move. But as I said, I am talking about people, not global manufacturing practices!

That's more than enough said.

I try to be warm-hearted in spirit but I don't think it comes across very well!

I imagine the afterlife as everyone lazing around on clouds lol

...and there are those of us who have noticed a lot of it over the years, and despite this, still feel let down by people because they try to approach life with a bit of hope, but every time get proved yet again that the bad people are in the majority (no-one can be that unlucky), it's just degrees of bad.

I am saddened that you have been hurt like this, and understand that you would feel disillusioned.
I have had bad times but always been lucky enough to have some support from good people.
I guess I was trying to say don't shut everyone out, some of them may be the ones who will add joy to your life.
I hope you too can have good times.

You have misinterpreted my point to suit your own conscience - the links I posted related to people suffering

You have the choice not to buy products made via a process in which people suffer - that's how you can make a difference so something can be done about it if enough people don't provide the market for these products

Most people want an easy life though, myself included, hence most of us are not very ethical

I've got no time for the environmental protection stuff as I think there's far more pressing needs to be seen to first

if you fail to understand the point I'm making I'm likely to keep re-clarifying it

Haha exactly, we should laze around on clouds together :D

I know you have a warm heart, but if you show your true self to people, they are not going to see it as a warm heart because they can only understand things in survival-terms ...

Yes I am beginning to understand this more now - the fact their way of being doesn't factor in being impressed by people being kind and warm-hearted as it interferes with and can be detrimental to the survival drive

Expect the worst behavior from everyone, and you'll never be disappointed ... you may even be pleasantly surprised!
