You feel that way, because of your integrity/pride - neurotypicals on the other hand (often) love to be told what should matter to them through their social surroundings!

Telling other people what they feel is the height of arrogance. You don't get to determine my thoughts or feelings, sweetheart.

They are welcome to come hang out with me. Dogs are the best things that exist.

It depends on the context. My counsellor tries to help me figure out and express how I feel, and I don't think that's arrogant at all. I think it's one of the kindest services anybody's ever done me. But that's in a very specific context. I agree that people telling me how I feel is often annoying. Then again, I rarely talk to people, so rarely does it come up.

For what it's worth, this video makes your point that cats are more independent. Hats off to border collies.

So we judge dogs and cats by how many human words they learn? Fascinating.

Don't you know, speech and the ability to communicate understandably with those who specifically are using speech to communicate is entirely what intelligence is based on, nothing else ;) </sarcasm>

Yeah, I kinda noticed. So many of these measures of animal cognition seem to be based on how closely they can relate to or be like humans. Like the self-awareness test. I mean, seriously? "We'll test animal self-awareness based on how closely their reaction resembles a human reaction to the same situation, and we'll continue to use that test even with animals who do not primarily rely on vision." The problem being that the actual premise and theory is flawed.

Seriously? Why do people have to try and prove which animal is more intelligent? Both animals are intelligent in their own ways.

My cat is very social and although I have a lot of pride I don't think that's why I fail socially.

I like learning and sharing information I know but I also like generating new ideas from what I hear. And it all breaks down when people 1) refuse to listen, 2) have a different opinion or 3) are completely impossible to relate to even though they think they are.

I'm always destined to fail socially.

I always must argue. Always.

I have another cat that is an absolute anxious nut. Just like her mama.

agree pigeons can do things that a human could never do (I "own" a dove a close relative to it and am 8O by the claims they are "stupid". Does it matter? if we apply that logic we would be testing on retarted babies and not animals

I wasn't telling him what to think, I was telling him not to tell me what I thought. I know the difference is subtle, but think very very hard and you'll get it.

I thought you spoke English. :?

If you don't like chocolate, and I tell you that you like chocolate, and I keep insisting that you do even when you say no, I am being rude.
You would not be being rude for being annoyed at my insistence that I know you better than you know yourself.
