My kid did that. Her first word was "Ama" (me, her mother). Second was "abb-aahh" (her bottle). Third was "Dat?" and she'd point.

We'd tell her everything we could about the object or thing and she'd just soak it up and understand it. We know she'd understand it because a couple of weeks later it would be part of her vocab or activities. She'd show she understood the use of, say, the broom, by trying to use it properly.

It was damned cool to watch.
